My daughter is almost 11 months. She is a nurse 4 times a day (and usually feed evening). In the past two months, I completely away, beginning with the afternoon feeding. Should I tell her supply of milk throughout the day? Offer bottle of whole milk at mid-afternoon? cup? Just curious, as other mothers have done.
I weaned at 14 months. She had been making small quantities of whole milk in a cup (more water and juice) for a month, so it was only a matter of cutting or nursing sessions one at a time. Certainly do not bother with a bottle 11 months. If you are still drinking from a cup, start by getting your habit. (You can put anything on it – pumped milk, juice, milk full of water). Once the cup is fine, you can gradually reduce nursing sessions and gradually increase the liquid you get from a cup. (Remember Cow milk is anot a direct replacement for breast milk. It's just part of an overall diet mixture, then there should be no more than about 20 ounces per day.)

OXYCODONE was prescribed by a doctor and relief, but the weekend ended with no loading dose, the doctor may also prescribe the drug to the pharmacy phone because it is a particular controlled substance. How can you treat everyone give contradictory "advice" on how to care for your newborn?
My son is just 3 weeks and is also trying to adjust to having a baby, I'm dealing with the world around me gives me conflicting "advice." My mother was staying with us since birth – and the last 3 weeks (she lives out of state). I was nursing him and he seems very hungry at night and I have to say that I give him cereal babies, my husband, saying he owes less to eat and give you a meal schedule time, as every 3 hours plus I was having the formula of breastfeeding, physicians say they should breastfeed exclusively and simply want to breastfeed the baby when she wants. I’m sure the answer is varied depending upon the person, but I thought I could get some insight from a few new moms. I am planning on breastfeeding my child, (I’m currently 15 weeks pregnant), and would like to get as much information about it as I can. I will be a first-time mother and have the resources to stay home for 8-10 weeks postpartum. I will be going back to work full-time following that two month period. My questions are:
In my situation, is a manual or electric breast pump more feasible?
Single or double pump?
How often do you pump? (mothers with a full-time job)
How much milk is expressed at what rate with a pump? (ex: 4 oz in 15 min.)

You will save yourself a lot of time and energy by getting a double electric pump. I use the medela pump in style. I mostly breastfeed but do use the pump 1 to 2 times a day for bottles for my husband to give at night and for milk supply storage. I plan on using mine at work also and it is convenient to transport back and forth. A manual will take you too long to pump. I plan on pumping 2 times at work working full time and at that point my daughter will be 7 months old.
So my results vary depending on time of day. In the morning when everyone typically has more milk, I am able to get 4 ounces per breast in 10-minutes of pumping at the lowest setting. In the evening it is more like 2 ounces per breast unless I haven’t breastfed from a certain breast for several hours then I can pull a higher amount.

Yes, I would definately have watched it. I was emergency section, tried to BF, poor latch and production problems. I asked repeatedly for help. I was put in a single room at the end of the corridor and forgot about. My LO blood sugars started to fall and I caved and formula fed.
I maddens me that so much emphasis is put on BF and how important it is, but its not only expectant mothers who need educated, its hospital staff too. I asked for help and the only piece of advice I was given was – just put her on the breast, its the easiest and most natural thing to do, you’ll get it right.

Breastfeeding can be a wonderful way to join a new mother and baby. Unfortunately, breastfeeding may also be a source of frustration if the supply of milk from a mother is not enough to feed the newborn. My OBGYN said to do the following:
1. pump out the milk from your breasts so that they are empty.
2. wrap them tightly and apply ice 3 times a day for 15min at a time.

The first US patent for a bra was granted in 1913 to Mary Phelps Jacob. Her invention is the most widely recognized as the predecessor to the modern bra and consequently the nursing bra. The first nursing bras entered the market in 1927 when William Rosenthal, the president of Maidenform, took out brassier design patents including nursing, full figured and the first seamed uplift bra.
Maidenform began to lead the way in the bra industry with their ad campaign, “I dreamed I…” in 1949 which emphasized that women could be whatever they wanted. Most importantly, different bras were designed for different types of activities. Thus, if you were pregnant you could purchase a maternity bra, if you were breastfeeding you could purchase a nursing bra. Maidenform’s innovations included adjustable straps, maternity bras, nursing bras and standardized cup sizes. Many bra manufacturers have since built on Maidenform’s designs, aiming to improve fashionable and functionality of nursing bras.
Innovations, patents and disputes
After World War II, the brassiere market increased exponentially along with the post war baby boom and the zip-up nursing bra was invented. Nursing bras saw little innovation for some time and the market was dominated by larger lingerie companies who would simply add a clip.
Today the nursing bra industry is very segmented with various players including traditional brassier players such as Wonderbra but more specifically is seeing speciality brands take charge in the market with increased quality, innovations in design and added expertise.
Several nursing bra patents are pending, or have been granted for various innovations and improvements. Bravado Designs was the innovator in the market by introducing a multi-band/multi-cup sizing system. This innovation was significant as pregnant women in the past had troubles with their nursing bras, specifically the comfort of their bras, as women’s breasts can fluctuate three cup sizes within an hour while nursing. Other innovations included: Mary Sanchez received a patent in 1991 for the one-handed fastening method and variable adjustment of cup size. More recently, a 2005 patent was granted to Line Rothman for the nursing bra tank designed for Glamourmom, which features added coverage of a mother’s mid-section, although this patent has not been upheld in court.
Size fluctuations
After about the third day after giving birth, the mother milk omes in and at that point changes in the breast happen very quickly. The breasts swell significantly and can feel achy, lumpy and heavy (which is referred to as engorgement). This swelling typically amounts to an increase of one or more cup sizes from her 3rd trimester. In addition, her cup size will vary depending on whether she has just nursed her baby or if she is full. Also, each breast could be different in size from the other depending on which side the baby tends to feed on. These fluctuations settle down after 10-12 weeks of nursing. At this point the rib band size will decrease and go back to the pre-pregnancy size. This is the size the mother will stay at until she finishes breastfeeding.
Importance of fit
Because of all of these size changes, a bra that accommodates this fluctuation is incredibly important, particularly during the first 2 months of breastfeeding. In addition to being important for comfort, an ill-fitting bra or a bra that does not grow or shrink with mom could result in infection if it is compressing a milk gland, for example. When a milk gland becomes compressed, it could clog and possibly result in an infection called mastitis. Extremely painful, mastitis is difficult for mom not just physically but emotionally. A well-fitting nursing bra provides support to the breasts and helps to maintain breast shape by limiting the stretching of supportive tissue.
Types of nursing bras
Traditionally, nursing bras are made with flaps of fabric over the cup which can be unclasped and pulled down to access the breast. When did it become the norm for people to make a choice between breastfeeding and formula feeding?
Obviously, we have the choice as first time mothers.
Somewhere along the line, breastmilk was substituted with a replacement formula. When did it become ‘normal’ to have to make the choice?
