Breastfeeding Pierced Nipples

A question about pierced nipples?

GI 18 and GI planning on getting my nipples pierced. I need to know how it feels have. It hurts so much? Will it affect me when I have a child in relation to breastfeeding?

Nipple piercings not prevent him from being able to breastfeed. It was a bit painful, and I have a high pain tolerance, but it was worth 105%. When I had mine drilling lady makes them one after the other, but when my your wife had had two holes in the room and did both at once, so it is always an option.

Lansinoh Breastfeeding Ointment

Is Lansinoh (breastfeeding ointment) good to use on tattoos?

So I was reading through questions on here, and some people have recommended using nipple ointment made for breastfeeding moms with sore and cracked nipples on healing tattoos. Who has done this, and is it better than using, say, A&D? Lanolin is the main ingrediant is one such ointment called Lansinoh, which is kinda like a moisterizing protectant for dry and cracked skin, mixed with vaseline to make the ointment.
orry i ment petroleum jelly not vaseline… well i guess they are the same anyway, but thats the base for all ointments regardless

I used bepanthen which is what you’ve described on my tattoo and it works excellent the fact that it is also an anti-sceptic helps with healing as well. It was recommended by my (very experienced) tattooist and two of my friends have also used it, none of our tattoos had any problems and my friend was in fact complimented by his tattooist on how well he’d taken care of his. I did NOT use vaseline i dont see any reason why you would need to, just make sure you dont rub to hard when applying it and to keep your tattoo moist not smothered.

Parenting, breastfeeding, the mother, formula, baby food

Formulas:

The American Academy of Pediatrics, babies under 12 months should be fed breast milk or infant. No other type of milk provides all nutrients in sufficient quantities to support growth optimal. The companies in question uses breast milk as a standard and a product, usually based on cow's milk, which contains proteins, fats and carbohydrates carbon at a rate that approximates human milk. Then, to add vitamins, minerals and other ingredients to the final product as close as possible to breast milk. As Ongoing research reveals factors in breast milk that were not previously known, the pharmaceutical companies that manufacture infant formula to add, to advertise the product as "new" or "improved." Some recent additions are ARA and DHA. Read labels carefully to know what is on the mark buying. When choosing a formula for your baby, it is generally preferable to start with one that is made from milk, because they are tolerated by most infants and are less expensive than specialized formulas. If your baby does not tolerate its formula, consult your doctor about which one to try next. Although soy-based formulas contain all the nutrients needed to support growth, also contain phytoestrogens that may affect a baby's growth and development, and prevent absorption zinc and calcium. A report by the FDA, the AAP states that "healthy term newborns is granted only soy formula is medically necessary. "(Http: / / www.fda.gov/Fdac/features/596_baby.html) specialized formulas for allergic children more expensive, and should be used on the recommendation a pediatrician.

Bottles:

If you feed your baby formula you need for baby bottles, pacifiers (dummies), and a cleaning brush effective. There are many types and styles of bottles available, and what you choose depends on preferences.
Bottles with disposable bags are fairly easy to use and easy to clean, but are more expensive than other types because coatings must be purchased in the months that your baby uses a bottle. Plastic bottles are light, and most are easy cleaned with hot soapy water and a brush. In recent months, press articles have warned against the potential risks of leaching of a chemical called bisphenol A or BPA in milk from plastic bottles when heated, and in the walls of the box the formula enters Although the FDA that plastic bottles are not safe for babies, you may want to research the different brands to see which are considered as safe before buying bottles for your baby. A search Google is presented a list of brands that are free of BPA.

Different babies better with different types of nipples. You should choose those with a slow flow from the beginning, especially for a young baby. If the milk flows too fast baby can drown, or taking too much air. Be sure to replace the nipples used to avoid breakage during feeding. Sometimes, a baby who is teething can bite the nipple and the cause of small pieces that come out to inspect regular basis.

Preparation:

Infant formula comes in three forms: ready to serve, juice, and dust. Ready to feed formula is easier to use. Can be stored at room temperature until the box opens, and gives the baby when it comes out of the box. However, expensive compared with other types. The other two forms of the formula must be mixed with water before meals. It is very important to read the instructions on the box to make sure add the right amount of water to milk the baby receives is not too thin (which could lead to malnutrition), or too concentrated (which could be difficult in the kidneys of the baby.) Some pediatricians (and the World Health Organization) recommends boiling the water before using it for a baby. Other doctors considered acceptable the use of tap water directly as it has proven to be safe. If you are unsure, ask your pediatrician. Powdered formula is not sterile, and in recent months, reports have warned against the possible contamination of some such formula with Enterobacter sakazakii, a bacteria that can cause infections in all ages, children (Less than 1 month old) and children Premature babies are at increased risk. The World Health Organization recommends that the formula for these children are ready for animal feed or concentrate. If powder to be used for a newborn, should be prepared with boiling water or heated almost to boiling, then cooled before feeding to kill bacteria if present. Once ready, the formula must be refrigerated or kept cold on ice until the baby is fed. Discard any milk used in the bottle after a meal, because bacteria multiply rapidly in warm milk. Heat the bottle in the microwave is not recommended because the hot spots that can burn a baby can occur. If you use a microwave, be sure to shake the bottle well to mix the formula completely. (Never microwave breast milk that would kill some of the living cells that protect children against the disease.)

Feeding Baby:

Lunchtime is very important in terms of your baby emotionally and social welfare. Always have your baby in his arms to give a bottle and close embrace. This is a good time to talk to your baby look in his eyes and see you smile and interact with you. Your head should be slightly higher, as most bottle flow fast enough to drown a baby is lying when swallowed. When the infant feeding, stop and try to burp your baby every ounce or more. As baby grows, you can take larger amounts without burping. Ask your doctor how much milk to feed her baby. No force to finish a bottle if you stop drinking and comprehensive laws. Most babies know what they need, and overeating may predispose to later obesity. Never leave a bottle due to the risk of suffocation, and not put your baby to bed with a bottle. Milk left on the teeth overnight promote dental caries.

But baby feeding, mealtime should be very comfortable and enjoyable for both.

Sore Nipples Breastfeeding Treatment

Nursing mother query – breastfeeding?

My wife is breastfeeding 5 month old baby. She gets her nipples sore and sometimes painful as the baby doesnt handle well or the baby extends sucking. This is tricky as we can’t go for any treatment for sore nipples since it may affect the baby’s feeding. How can we get rid of this problem? Are there any ointments/medicines that doesnt affect the baby but relieves the sore/painful nipples? Please advise.

As others have said, lanolin is perfectly safe. She can also try expressing some milk and letting it dry on her nipples, and walking around topless, or at least without a bra and a loose top. If her nipples are always in a tight bra (especially if it’s not all cotton), they can get irritated.

She might also want to speak with a lactation consultant (I think they may be called something different in Australia? Her midwife or doctor can direct her.) Baby may be latching poorly (sometimes as baby gets older both mom and baby get lazy about a good latch), which is what’s making her sore.

EDIT: Do not use a nipple shield unless the lactation consultant specifically recommends it, and supervises its use. Nipple shields usually just make things worse, and don’t solve the underlying problem.

breastfeeding with flat nipples?

I do not think that is invested, but are flat, so it was quite worried when I got pregnant I wouldnt be able to breastfeed. colestum leak started when I was 16 weeks, I am now 32 weeks and 4 days and I have many leaks, so I have to wear pads nursing all the time! and my breasts have increased almost two cup sizes. because I have so many leaks, is proof of my flat nipples will not be a problem? I am aware that there may be other reasons why I used to be able to breastfeed, but this looks to be a problem or not?

Well, your milk is not really the problem. The baby is able to block is when you have a problem. I have not had this problem, but if you're worried about a lactation consultant now for more information. Do not know exactly how, but it may be something that is good or you can do something else (use one of these breast shields?). But LC is without doubt one of the answers you need. :-) Good luck!

Lansinoh Breastfeeding Cream

nursing mothers. Whether you prefer?

As nursing pads and lanolin cream. What brands. I'm just curious. I use Lansinoh. The pads are very thin but super absorbent. When I had my first daughter, I tried a brand of tampons that were so thick you can see through my bra. So he moved to the island more costly. :) For the lanolin, which also use Lansinoh. Once I tried the Medela brand and thought it was too thin. As Does not stay in my nipples and spread to my chest block, but the Lansinoh was so thick that remained in my nipples and do not rub. But just curious what people have other preferences. :) Jen, I do not know. One of my friends carpet that had lanolin in them, and has a yeast infection, a week later. Could be a coincidence, but I do not think so.

I just quit bfing A month ago, but I loved all the Lansinoh! I only used the cream to the nipple during the first month or more – until my nipples used to the new restriction. But I loved nursing her notebooks. I ran almost constantly. Everyone tells me that the leak was stopped after feeding for a month or two – not for me! My daughter fed too frequently was not. Who knows, every organ differences. I tried a cheaper brand once because it was very short of money. They were thin and highly absorbent, but the sticky stuff on the back and would not have had this sort of thing in the gel absorb additional wicks as Lansinoh ago. With Lansinoh could use a tampon all day (sometimes twice a day ever) and my breasts felt wet – Even if the swab lot. I never had a yeast, bacteria or problems or thrush. I really recommend to any of breastfeeding and if someday I have another baby, I spend the extra money for them, no doubt!

Sore Breastfeeding Nipples

sore breastfeeding nipples
sore nipples during breastfeeding 3 1 / 2 months old?

My son is 3 1 / 2 months exclusively breastfed. When I started breastfeeding breast, my nipples were sore, cracked and bleeding, but this situation has improved in the first few weeks and I had no pain or discomfort since. However, the last two weeks has been very painful to nurse again. They are not rough or cracked, but the pain is more like biting or sucking it very, very hard. For over 20 pounds to 3 1 / 2 months, I wonder if it receives no milk and therefore, would retire too hard. Not yet have teeth, so it's not that – I think is sufficient for washing. Is it do to help this pain? I do not think lanolin or ointments will help, because this is not the skin that is painful, is below …..

If exclusive breastfeeding was'm make sure you make the amount of milk I had when I breastfeed my son just shook my chest while I ate because it is almost four months, could be that your teeth are coming

Breastfeeding Cracked Nipples

breastfeeding cracked nipples
my wife is breastfeeding and has cracked nipples that are healing……?

she put Neosporin on and forgot to wipe it off before she fed this last round- I read that this may promote yeast in the mouth it was a small ammount. does anyone have any other info of the effects?

Watch your baby for any unusual signs that the neosporin could have made the baby sick. Also call your pediatrician and let them know what happened to ease your mind and they would be able to tell you what could happen and side affects. As far as the cracked nipples maybe even try letting them dry out and getting some sun on them instead of putting neosporin on them. It has to hurt or be uncomfortable washing off the neosporin everytime you breastfeed. I had this same problem. I watched dozens of videos and read tons of info on how to breastfeed but when I actually tried it for the first time with my week old daughter I thought I knew what I was doing. 2 days after she was born my nipples hurt so bad and they were cracked and bleeding. I was crying everytime she ate. I went and saw a lactation consultant at my daughter’s pediatric office. I ended up having a bad latch. My nipples hurt so bad. They recommended that you rub your own milk around your nipple and try to let your nipples get as much air as they can. Like sleeping at night without a shirt & bra. They also said sunlight too but I’m not sure how that works because I know you would get in trouble if you just walked around town without a shirt and bra on lol. Anyways I had been using samples of that purple package for cracked and dry nipples called lasinoh (spelling?)The consultant said still air and your own milk will heal them faster. I also got a nipple shield from the consultant. It’s so great it’s like a bandaid for your nipples lol. They are clear silicone I think? And go right over your nipple and the baby continures to nurse as normal. They carry nipple shields at babies r us for $8. They really help. Tell your wife about the shields, it will make nursing more bearable while her nipples heal.

Breastfeeding Sore Nipples

breastfeeding sore nipples
Breastfeeding, Sore Nipples, and Bra Wearing?

I’ve been breastfeeding for 3 weeks now. I’ve worn a bra for about 5 days here and there only. My nipples are so sore I go around my house shirtless too. I hate this b/c my breasts are sagging, I have stretch marks now, and I would like to wear a bra!

When I do wear a bra I notice that it folds/smashes my nipples which are always erect for some reason now). Is this normal?

Any suggestions? Should I just tough it out or continue going bra- and shirtless? If so, for how long should I do this?

Thanks!
Oops, forgot to add that I’m using lanolin cream. Last night I tried gel pads and for the past 2 days I’ve tried the saltwater soaks.

I breastfed my daughter almost 3 years ago and I am now breastfeeding my son who is 13 months old and I never had to go without a bra unless I didn’t feel like wearing one for a little bit. I was told to wear a bra at all times to prevent any sagging. As for the nipples folding or smashing that is normal and fine. They will poke out again when you need to nurse. I use breast pads when I go out so they are not seen through my shirt.

If you want to wear a bra and a shirt then go ahead. It will not hurt your supply. I would buy a Nursing bra so that it will be easier to nurse your baby. Also make sure you try it on first to make sure it fits because you don’t want your bra to be too tight or too loose because you do want support but not be too tight when you are engorged.,

Edit: I just read your updates. If you nipples are that sore you should check your latch because it should not be that bad. Usually you get cracked and sore nipples from a bad latch. If you still continue having problems with your latch then I suggest getting in contact with a lactatioin consultant they will help you get a good latch and also to maintain it.

Good Luck!!!

Lansinoh Lanolin Breastfeeding Mothers

Lansinoh (the nipple cream for breastfeeding mother)?

I do not BF anymore but I still have a whole tube of the lanisoh cream, I also have REALLY chapped and cracked lips, well one day (last night actually..lol) I got this crazy idea and put some on my lips (kinda as lip balm) and when I woke up this morning my lips were so soft and smooth..no dry cracked bleeding lips..i swear, it’s the best thing i’ve tried and i’ve tried everything..but my question is will using this product on my lips have any effect on me? like if I ingest a lil bit? It’s 100% lanolin but still..

Oh and I tried to call the 800 number on the tube but no one answered..please don’t think ima freak..lol

I use it for all kinds of stuff with no problem. If it’s safe for a baby to ingest it’s safe for you too! I’ve used it on my lips, my baby’s lips, my baby’s butt even! It works good!
Very best wishes!

Breastfeeding Sore Nipples Treatment

What Are The Breastfeeding Discomfort Issues for First Time Mothers

Breastfeeding is the most special gift from a mother to her baby, especially in the growth and development of her infant. This is why mothers are required to breastfeed their newborn babies for at least 6 months. But because of some discomforts while breastfeeding, some mothers would opt to give feeding formulas to their kids to avoid the pains.

Breastfeeding your baby successfully and painfully takes a lot of love, patience, perseverance, determination, and, of course, proper techniques.

You may consider these tips on how you can alleviate breastfeeding discomforts and give your child the best nourishment there could be:

Engorgement – This is the most common problem of new breastfeeding mothers. Two to three days after giving birth, the breast will normally feel full. Upon frequent breastfeeding your baby, the fullness will decrease within two or three weeks. If the breast milk is not being removed regularly, this is the time that engorgement of the breast will take effect. The breast will then feel tender and painful and the engorgement will eventually flatten the nipple causing the baby to have difficulty on latching.

To treat this, you will need to use cold compress to decrease the swelling, or you could take a hot shower bath or warm water breast rinse. You can also massage your nipple before letting the infant latch on it. To avoid flattening of the nipples, make hand expression on the areola before feeding time and, as much as possible feed the baby frequently but shorter than longer.

Sore Nipples – Nipples become sore and painful only if the mother failed to put the infant at the right or proper latching position.

To avoid having sore nipples, position your baby in such a way that the body of the infant faces you. It is important that the ears, shoulder, and hip are in a straight line. You can use pillows to keep the baby’s nose in proper level with your nipple and to avoid the baby from sliding down. Make sure that the baby’s mouth is wide open with the top and bottom lips flanged on the breast when latching, while your fingers pull up your breast and your thumb on top of the areola.

Cracked Nipples – If the skin of the nipples are cracked or chapped, it is still due to wrong latching position.

To treat the cracked skin on the nipples, avoid using ointments, lotions, or other topical treatments. What you should do is to put the whole nipple inside the mouth of the infant with the lips around the areola. Make sure that each breast will take turns on breastfeeding even if the nipple is cracked. This will prevent further pain later on. After the session, expose your breasts to air and sunshine for at least 15 minutes to have its own drying time. If you are comfortable with the use of nursing pads, choose cotton fabrics and change the pads regularly. Use clean and comfortable nursing bras made of 100% cotton and avoid using tight and underwire bras to maintain the smooth flow of milk and decrease the stimulation of lump breast.

Breastfeeding can be a wonderful moment of mother and infant bonding when you know what to do. Nothing can beat the mothers’ expression of love and care than breastfeeding.

Cracked Nipples Treatment Breastfeeding

Should I continue breastfeeding with sore cracked nipples?

I am breast feeding my third child who is now 4 weeks old, but my nipples are still cracked and sore. Should I continue to feed or should I bottle feed? Is there any treatments?

I’ve read some of the other answers and just because your nipples are sore and cracked doesn’t mean you have a breast infection. Your breast would be hot and you’d have a fever. It’s perfectly safe to breastfeed with cracked nipples. My second tore my nipples up! What I did was use the lanisoh after each feeding. Make sure you don’t cover your breasts right away, let some air get to them. I also only fed off one breast at a time when I was very sore. This helped give some time inbetween. If you use both each time, your body will adjust, but you’ll probably become engorged. That can be painful too. Sorry. They also have some breastpads out there to help with sore nipples. Gerber has Soothing gel something, there is also Soothies gel pads, something like mothers best friend to name a few I’ve been coming across. They didn’t have them while I was going through it, but I’ve already getting some to try (I’m 39 wks preg). I had a hard time locating some where I live so I bought mine on e-bay. Also, DO NOT put soap on your nipples, this will dry them out. You can also express some milk and rub it on and around your nipples, let it dry, then apply the lanisoh. That the routine I followed. They will remain sore for a time, but it will get better. As far as continuing breast or switching to bottle, ask yourself, “Will I miss this if I stop?”. I quit with my first and missed it dearly. Maybe you wouldn’t, the choice is yours. The pain won’t last forever. I hope this helps, good luck, I know the pain you’re going through.
BTW Is your child latching on correctly? If he/she isn’t, this could be the cause. My latched on fine, but was very aggressive. Just something to think about.

Nipple Sore Breastfeeding

Breast Feeding & Sore Nipples

Sore nipples after breast feeding

Once breast-feeding is established you may find that your milk will not let-down if you are tense, anxious or embarrassed. The baby latches on and sucks but gets little or nothing and may come off again, howling indignantly. The milk will not flow comfortably until you can find enough privacy for relaxation.

Oxytocin also makes the muscles of your uterus contract, which is why breast-feeding tends to speed up your womb’s return to its pre-pregnancy size. Some women feel those contractions as mild “colicky” pains. A few find them a very uncomfortable part of starting breast-feeding. They tend to be rather worse after later babies than after the first, but they are only noticeable for two or three days.

Sore nipples

The mistaken idea that nipples got sore from the unaccustomed use of suckling was responsible for a lot of misery both for mothers (who had sore nipples) and babies (whose sucking time was rationed). Indirectly it was also responsible for a lot of breast-feeding “failures” because soreness affected supply and rationing affected demand. The principal cause of nipple soreness is not unaccustomed sucking but any.

Nipples are not for sucking on. If they are drawn in and out over the baby’s gums and tongue the friction certainly will make them sore and he will not even get much milk. So the principal cause of sore nipples is poor positioning. Your baby must draw the nipple right to the back of his mouth followed by a good mouthful of areola. The two together make a “teat” that is held in place by his suction while his jaws squeeze the margins of the areola and breast tissue, squeezing milk from the milk glands. Never subject your nipple to suction by pulling your baby off it, either. Wait until he pauses for breath before easing him off your breast. Or break the suction by inserting a gende finger in the corner of his mouth.

If you get a bruised feeling where his gums have worked on the areola, adjust your position at the next feed so that a different part takes the main stress. Avoid washing nipples with soap in late pregnancy or while breast-feeding. They have built-in lubrication from tiny glands around the areola (“Montgomery’s tubercles”) which it’s a pity to remove as it is more effective than any cream you might use to replace it, and more hygienic, too. Don’t massage and scrub nipples to harden them.

They are made for the job of breast-feeding so they don’t need any special preparation. And you don’t want them tough, you want them flexible and elastic. At the end of a feed, express a drop of hindmilk from the breast your baby has just finished, and use it as a location to cover your nipples and areolae.

What is the relationship between breastfeeding and thrush Candida?

The benefits of breastfeeding are many: loss of weight after delivery, increasing the baby's immune system, a close relationship between mother and child, but sometimes health and joy of breastfeeding food can be interrupted by a fungus called Candida albicans annoying.

Although Candida is naturally in the body when it is allowed to freely develop, can cause problems in breastfeeding for mother and child. A baby who develops a candida condition often suffer infant thrush or Candida diaper dermatitis severe, whereas the mother's body responds by developing candida or thrush in the nipples and milk ducts, often causing itching, pain and even a decrease or stop producing milk. Thrush can also be transmitted between mother and child.

A common cause of Candida in lactating women is taking antibiotics. If the woman or the child had a round or several rounds of antibiotics, drugs kill good bacteria in the system and infection. Under these conditions, bacteria are not there to combat the proliferation of candida, and the product of fungus to grow out of control.

Furthermore, pregnancy increases a woman's odds of developing Candida proliferation because of increased estrogen levels that lead to blood sugar levels in the body. It is no secret that the yeast feeds sugar, and therefore, the advancement of Candida.

Other issues left by breastfeeding women more susceptible to breast and nipple thrush is when the woman had a vaginal yeast infection during pregnancy or if you have cracks Poor baby making in nursing. Both conditions open the door to Candida. Other factors include chronic diseases, decreased immunity and the use of steroids.

Possible symptoms of a nursing mother with Candida include:

· A red rash like appearance of the nipple or red nipples.
Nipples · You can appear swollen, scaly, or small vesicles.
Sensitive and sore · nipples, pain or discomfort in touch.
· Pain during breastfeeding.
· Pain, burning and / or itching of the nipples during and between meals.
· For acute pain in the breast tissue or milk ducts.
· Decrease in milk production.
• The infant breastfeeding also candidiasis may occur in the mouth, but it is not always the case.

One of the most frustrating aspects for many mothers breast thrush is the decrease in production milk. It is important for most women to try to continue breastfeeding through the infection. However, sometimes the pain prevents proper reflex does not lead to the baby getting enough milk. If your child also has thrush in the mouth, which is likely, or she may also feel pain, adding to the struggle.

Most health professionals recommend treatment of the mother and child for Candida proliferation, although only one of them symptomatic. Otherwise, the yeast can continue to be placed in both directions.

Current treatments for breast candidiasis are associated with antifungal creams prescription and gentian violet. Good nutrition is also very useful when it comes to keeping the candidate away. Avoid sugar and food processing, washing to fund the system with large amounts of water are positive steps to improve them, while avoiding future housing supply thrush.
