Is it too late to start breast feeding?
My baby is 6.5 weeks old now. I tried breastfeeding at birth but kinda gave up on it. Can i start now? I would love to try again. Are there any natural ways (no herbs or anything) to increase my supply? i hear oatmeal works wonders! Im going to get a manual pump tomorrow and also, how good is hand expressing? If i start pumping or expressing, how long will it to take for me to get milk?
Look at all the ignorance! If you don’t know the answer to a question for sure, then you shouldn’t answer at all!
OF COURSE it’s not too late! Even if your milk has dried up- there is still hope. Women can and do breastfeed adoptive and surrogate babies without ever having been pregnant so if they can bring on milk flow, so can you! Stimulation is the most important thing. Oatmeal does help. Drink lots of fluids. With the stimulation- put the baby to the breast as often as possible and pump pump pump! I helped my cousins wife re-lactate and we got her a supplemental nursing system (SNS) so that she could still tube feed the baby formula/expressed breast milk to ensure he was eating while he suckled the breast. She did use herbs and they are safe but I can understand your hesitance. With the herbs, she had a good milk supply in about a weeks time. She used fenugreek and blessed thistle just in case you do change your mind. They are not necessary however, they just make the process a bit faster and easier. Brewer’s yeast is also helpful!
To the person who said she’s likely doing things that she can’t when you breastfeed- I think it’s worth noting that you can eat and drink almost anything you want while nursing. You just obviously need to avoid drugs, alcohol and make sure all meds are safe for breastfeeding. There are no unsafe foods or nonalcoholic drinks under normal circumstances….not sure what you’re implying or where you get your information.
ETA: It’s a bit ridiculous that someone would give my answer and the answer below mine a thumbs down. Both answers are FACTUALLY sound. Giving an answer a thumbs down implies that you disagree. If you don’t agree with FACTS, then something is wrong with you.
It is a FACT that you can bring a milk supply back. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s hard but it CAN be done. The tips I suggested have worked for a lot of people. None of that is conjecture or my own personal opinion so I really can’t comprehend what’s not to agree with. Again, it’s fact- which means that it’s right. It’s not an opinion thus it’s not really up for debate.
Some people just don’t understand science!
To the original poster- I wish you the best of luck!!!
anyone rash fenugreek and blessed thistle?
I started taking supplements at the same time is two days since he has been given by my doctor and lactation specialist that I have enough milk for my baby that makes me whole while I keep trying to breastfeed, but now I realize that an eruption is my arms and legs and do not know if it is complete or not. Someone a rash of these? Should I stop taking it? I really hope to continue with them and not abandon breastfeeding my son.
I take fenugreek and have never had a run of it. Maybe try taking two Benadryl and see if that helps, if it does then you probably have an allergy, if nothing else is causing the eruption. I had problems with supply as well, and I know how difficult it is to keep your power up. What worked for me was pumping every two hours, drinking three liters of water, Fenugreek and Mother's Milk tea. Now I have a surplus of milk. Keep it up, things will improve.

What my wife can do to keep milk production up?
My wife started to pump two weeks after delivery. In the third week of milk production has decreased in quantity. She was breastfeeding all the time. So you know any ladies who can increase production of milk will help.
Please see the information on kellymom.com. Your wife can also get help by going to mothering.com. My quick answers are: oatmeal in the morning. Mother's milk tea. Greek Fennel (selling CNG). pumping will also affect supply. Why is the pump? Are there any problem with the baby? call your local leader of La Leche League (which are free and are very helpful.) Also, see if you can come see a lactation consultant (LC). that are often covered by insurance and is available either by the doctors office or hospital. Good luck! Breast milk is the best food for her baby. Grande and he supports it.

Kigeline is a phyto-hormone derived from the fruit of the Kigelia Africana tree and acts to prevent the relaxing of skin tissue while increasing firmness and tension. Phyto-hormones are plant chemicals remarkably similar to human hormone secretions. They are rich in bioflavonoids and they contain effective antioxidants.
After supplements we have what are called breast shaping systems. These are devices that a woman uses on a regular basis, mostly to exercise the muscles of the breasts. The long term goal is that eventually with proper increase in muscle strength and thickness the size of the breasts will increase. While many of these devices have been FDA tested and approved there has been no documented proof that they produce any real increase in breast size.
Most often plant products are used to provide a natural breast enlargement product. These plant products will usually contain estrogen, that functions to stimulate breast tissue and cause an increase in the breast size. Therefore, the most common breast enlargement products occurring in the environment include the saw palmetto and the dandelion, and extensive studies have been conducted on their successful roles as a breast enlargement product.
For those who want breast enlargement but don’t want implants, there are other options to consider. Some natural breast enlargement methods use creams or pills. Other breast enlargement methods utilize herbal remedies or non-surgical devices. For those who want breast enlargement without surgery, these are all options worth looking into.
Breast size has become one of the major issues that women face especially during their younger years, as society’s idea of beauty have tilted towards the idea that women with big breasts are more attractive. As a result, more and more women now want to have fuller breast sizes to be able to fit into the idea of what is beautiful.
Pushups helps to tone up the chest muscles to a great extent. When doing pushups, the palms must be kept fully on the floor and the knees must be kept touching each other. This provides the right amount of pressure on the chest muscles.
Breast cancer leading to a mastectomy procedure is devastating to any woman, very often there are serious physical and psychological after effects. One can avoid this stage by doing regular and properly designed exercises targeted directly to the breast.
Premature sagging occurs because of stretching the Cooper’s ligaments that help suspend and support the breast. This can occur after pregnancy and weight loss. The onset of sagging breasts in some younger women is change in overall breast size after having a baby. A woman’s breasts generally become larger and engorged with milk in preparation for breastfeeding. Once breastfeeding is over, her breasts may not snap back.
Regular breast massage helps to flush out toxins from the breast via the lymphatic system and help to bring nutrients to the tissues. It also decreases the symptoms of PMS, menopause and menstrual cramps. Over a period of time, you will help diminish benign breast cysts while helping to flush lymph nodes and stimulating your glandular system.
Fenugreek – fenugreek is an ayurvedic herb that is very effective in increasing the size of the breast. As in general it is also very helpful in treating the various ailments like throat related problems, indigestion, increasing the breast size and increasing the milk secretion in lactating mothers.

How to Prepare your House for an Infant : Breast Feeding Supplies for Newborns: Part 2

During the first days following the birth of your baby, your breasts begin producing colostrum, although your body began making it long before that – between three and four months of pregnancy. Colostrum doesn’t have many calories, but it has the right amount of protein and other nutrients your baby needs in the first few days after birth.
During those first days after birth, you may worry that your breast fed baby may dry up and blow away from lack of nutrition, but what colostrum lacks in volume it makes up for in power. It is exactly what your baby needs for it’s first milk. It is full of antibodies and immunoglobulins, which not only help protect your baby as it comes into this world of bacteria and viruses, but it also has a laxative effect that helps baby pass the tarry first stool called meconium.
It is a common misconception that when the baby nurses in the first day or two, that he gets nothing. Luckily this is not true. It is however, difficult to convince some mothers of the need to nurse early and often when they believe that their “milk has not come in.”
In addition some cultures hold the belief that colostrum is “bad” milk and will not breastfeed until the mother’s mature milk is in. Many women have to be engorged before they will believe that there is any milk for the baby. Likewise, if the mother is no longer engorged, she may falsely believe that her milk is gone.
Expressing a drop or two of colostrum for the mother will give her a strong visual cue that her breasts are not empty. The mother produces small amounts of colostrum in the first 24 hours; ranging from 7 ml to 123 ml. The newborn takes 7-14 ml per feeding (Riordan and Auerbach, 124).
A gradual increase occurs during the first day and a half followed by a dramatic increase in milk output by the second day that continues through day four. At 5 days postpartum milk production is approximately 500 ml/24 hours. This is evidence that mother nature intended the infant’s gastrointestinal tract to start up slowly after birth.
**As a result of observing that immigrant Bengali women in a London maternity ward failed to initiate breast feeding for a few days after birth, the author of this article decided to study this phenomenon. A review of the literature revealed that prelacteal feeds are common in the Indian subcontinent and in Egypt.
**Most UK studies of breast-feeding practices of Asian immigrants focus on the decline in breast-feeding prevalence. No research was found that directly investigates attitudes and beliefs about colostrum.
**The current study sought to determine what Bengali women believe about colostrum, why colostrum is omitted from early feeding, the duration of this omission, and what influences this belief and behavior.
**Data were gathered from 60 first-generation immigrants (58 non-English speaking), including 48 who had previously given birth in Bangladesh. Only two of the women surveyed knew that colostrum had helpful attributes. Others felt that it would either provide no benefit to their baby or would actually harm the infant.

Breastfeeding and Nursing Pads review
Human milk contains a balance of nutrients that closely matches infant requirements for brain development, growth and a healthy immune system. Nothing is more natural than breastfeeding. Breastfeeding may also protect your baby from developing inflammatory bowel disease later in life.
Today, mothers dealing with low milk supply are interested to learn how foods and herbs can support their milk production. Experts who work closely with low-supply mothers report that certain foods influence milk supply for some mothers. These so called “lactogenic foods and herbs”. While breastfeeding, you need to get enough vitamins and minerals especially important are Calcium, Vitamin D, Folic Acid and Iron. Although you can get many of these nutrients from the foods you eat, it is hard to know if you are getting enough of each nutrient every day. Taking a supplement made especially for nursing moms is a great way to make sure you are coving all your bases.
A nursing mother requires extra nutrient to feed their baby and to keep her physically fit. Moringa will suite best for these nutrient requirements. To support a breast feeding mother a natural supplement will be more viable. Moringa powder with enormous nutrient has a very good effect on the vulnerable groups especially in lactating mother by in inducing the breast milk production. Mothers who took Moringa during pregnancy have experienced being able to produce milk much quicker after delivery verses those mothers who didn”t. The use of Moringa by the mother would create the ultimate breast milk made even more nutritious by the vast array of vital nutrients naturally available to the mother. As we know the health of a mother reflects the health of the baby.
Nothing is better at supplying those nutrients than breast milk fortified from a mother taking Moringa. Moringa is an exceptionally nutritious vegetable tree with a variety of potential uses. We all know instinctively that breast milk is the ultimate food prescribed by nature for the infant child and Moringa can be instrumental in helping mothers produce more of this precious food. Moringa leaf boosts your energy in a natural manner, and is a remarkable source of nutrition. This energy promotion does not happen because of sugar, so it is lasts for a long time. The Moringa Leaves are incomparable as a source of the sculpture-containing amino acids methionine and cystine, which are often in short supply.
Nursing mother and baby need calcium to keep your bones strong and healthy. It is recommended that a breastfeeding mother get about 1,000 mg of calcium a day. Moringa contains more the amount of calcium in milk which acts as a calcium supplement in a natural way. Although babies typically have enough stored iron to last through their sixth month, iron is still an important supplement for mom. If the breast feeding mothers are feeling tired and run down, you may not be getting enough iron. Moringa Leaves contain more Iron than Spinach prevents deficiency disease related to iron deficiency. Breastfeeding in public has never been so private

Breast Feeding Dilema……………?
My daughter is a week old today. I’ve read several books on breastfeeding, my pediatrician has seen her latch on properly. Yet every time I nurse I’m in soo much pain Ibite my lip to keep from screaming, I have large breasts and proportioned to them nipples. Football hold is easiest, I watch for “fish lips” what am I doing wrong? Does anyone else have this problem?
Suggestions appreciated
Thank You in advance for any help.
Using lanolin, tried ice packs and tea bags, nipples lightly bleeding, but I really want this to work!
Besides the fish lips – can you tell if she is using her tongue properly? While nursing, it should come out over her lower gumline.
Make sure she is taking in a good portion of your areola and not just your nipple. You can help with this if you make a “nipple sandwich” when you are latching her on. Compressing the breast tissue as if you were going to take a bite out of a big sandwich can help her to take in more areola and may make you more comfortable. Also, make sure you are aligning your hand properly to her mouth when you support the breast. In the football hold, your hand will resemble a “C” on your breast. In cradle or cross cradle your hand will form a “U” on the breast.
Make sure you are supporting her head well so she isn’t pulling down on the nipple. Both football hold and cross cradle are good for this.
Make sure you are keeping the lanolin on there all the time. Give them a few mins to air dry after feeding.

weight loss herbs during breastfeeding?
Hello every body
does anybody knows is it bad for me or for the baby to take weight loss herbs during breastfeeding????
does it affect the milk?
thanx
Herbs are not regulated by the FDA; they are exempt under the DSHEA. There are so many reports of herbs being contaminated with prescription drugs, with toxic chemicals, and with heavy metals like lead and arsenic, that I would think twice about taking them period, and especially since you are breastfeeding.

A baby is a bundle of a blessing from the Almighty. When a baby is born, parents are handled with such a lot of responsibility that requires a lot of monitoring and effort. Newborn babies sleep for almost 20 hours. This is the right time to grow. So, the nest time you find your baby sleeping, think it is always growing. A sound sleep is necessary for every baby though some people might say that babies are able to sleep in almost every environment. Make the home environment as pleasant as possible to get good results of your parenting.
Babies need food like all of us. Babies are fed at a specific time at regular intervals. The feeding practices have to be hygienic as much as possible. Breastfeeding for babies is a very efficient part of boosting up baby’s immunity. An immune baby will not catch diseases and have hours of peaceful sleep. Another effective health tip is massaging babies with lotions or oils. Massaging gives them a firm body structure and improves circulation of blood throughout the skin.
Bonding acts as a stimulus towards your baby. Playing, talking, singing a lullaby etc, will not only entertain your baby but also create an emotional bond with you and other family members. These activities stimulate the baby’s senses and gives a good health overall. Changing the baby’s nappy frequently is another proven activity. Diaper rashes arise when the diaper is a low quality one or even with long hours of usage of the same diaper. It is good to use lotions or creams before putting on a diaper. It took your belly nine months to get to the state it’s in and there is NO WAY you willing to wait another nine to get it back to its former glory. Luckily, in just 8 weeks, you can be on your way to a firmer and more flattering midsection. This program will not require crash dieting or 3-hour a day workout regimens. Who can do that anyway? Your only job is to wear a special “binder” for 8 weeks following pregnancy.
Scared? Don’t be, it’s really quite simple. For centuries, women from around the globe have regained their pre-baby bellies by wrapping themselves with a item known as an abdominal compression binder. Binding helps to tone the muscles of the abdomen and can speed up weight loss. In order to achieve the maximum benefits, an abdominal compression binder should be worn religiously for 8 weeks (with your physician’s approval). It can be taken off when showering and to be laundered.
Abdominal compression binders are snugly wrapped around your abdomen as soon as one day following delivery. Similar to how a corset is worn, a binder is tightly wrap around your midsection and easily fastened in the front. Although they may sound like it, these binders are not medieval torture devices; in fact, you might be surprised at how comfortable you are wearing one. The reassuring pressure it provides will support your sagging belly. Over time, with increased and constant pressure, you will notice your abdomen regaining its original form.
Tighter abs and a re-defined waistline are not the only benefits an abdominal compression binder can provide in a short amount of time. Your improved posture, thanks to being bound, can lead to less back and shoulder pain commonly associated with breastfeeding. Post pregnancy stretch marks can be lessened and uterine swelling diminished. Bloating, caused by water retention, can also be a decreased. For women who have had c-sections, using an abdominal compression binder may decrease the recovery time. Firm pressure on the belly seems to lessen the incision pain and allow for greater mobility.
Celebrity moms have been using this binding technique for years, becoming red carpet ready in no time. Jessica Alba, Brooke Burke, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Tori Spelling, Gwen Stefani, and Minnie Driver, have all wrapped their post pregnancy bellies and lost inches fast.
You won’t believe the results when you take the time to invest in wearing an abdominal compression binder. Now is the time to banish your baby belly, reclaim your confidence, and rediscover your waistline, and you can do it in just 8 weeks!

Is it the herb Pau D'Arco safe to use while breastfeeding?
I want to use this herb in my candid cleaning but I can not find no information on what is good for nursing. Please comment if you are familiar with using herbs, Thanks!
Pau D'Arco I use and give my children a formula contained. I found a site, however, is not recommended for nursing mothers http://www.herbnet.com/ask. Or pregnant %%%%% 20Yeast 20on 20the 20Infections.htm 20herbalist/asktheherbalist_questions do not know if the link copy and paste could work. I'm disappointed because I love Arco Pau and I inform safety. I refer to your profile pytonutritional is dense. Contains laprochol but laboratory tests to high doses of the strain was shown to be toxic may be true of any isolated in high doses. I read the article and draw your conclusions. But he did wonders for my family, especially my 4 year old daughter is prone to bladder infections and gave it to her since she was 2.
BREASTFEED – TAMASALA

Whether you are pregnant for the first time or not, it is important to be aware of and cater to the changes your body will undergo as your pregnancy progresses. As with everything, ongoing research and development, testing and trialling mean improvements to the design and construction of pregnancy bras is evident. Don’t just haul out your old one, or a stretched favourite from the back of the drawer! Invest in a pregnancy bra which will give you shape, support, comfort and chic and stylish designs. You can still feel sexy!
I recommend being fitted for your pregnancy bra by a professional bra fitter. The bra you choose must be designed in a manner that accommodates the following:
Health – ensure your bra does not have underwire. This can restrict the growth changes in breast size and shape during pregnancy and restrict milk flow during breastfeeding which can lead to painful conditions such as mastitis. This often means an end to breastfeeding or at the very least causes an unnecessary interruption as you will need to treat the condition with antibiotics which can cross over to your baby via your breast milk.
Comfort – as with all pregnancy and breastfeeding lingerie, your bra needs to be lined with super soft cotton for absorption and breathability. The seams should be constructed in such a way that they will not cause rubbing or chafing to sensitive tissue areas. Wider bra straps and back adjusters will allow for comfort when your bust and diaphragm expand.
Practical – one handed maternity clips are a must – you will probably not have both hands free! Make sure there are plenty of eyes, preferably six, at the back of the pregnancy bra to allow for growth and breast fluctuation. The bra must also be made of superior and durable fabrics because it will be washed more frequently than your regular lingerie.
All this said, you must still choose a pregnancy bra which looks gorgeous and makes you feel chic and stylish. It is possible, they are definitely out there! As important as the practicalities of your maternity lingerie is the need for a woman to feel feminine and radiant. Choosing a well fitted, superbly designed pregnancy bra with matching underwear, or perhaps a camisole, will make you feel confident and gorgeous. If you feel this way, those ups and downs all women experience during pregnancy and breastfeeding, are just that little bit less demanding.
Make sure you get fitted with your pregnancy bra as soon as you feel discomfort with your regular lingerie. This is usually around three to four months and then again at seven months or so. A good fit is one that is comfortable, gives you great shape and makes you feel ravishing! If you are well fitted at the store you choose to visit, that second bra you buy should take you through the arrival of your baby and beyond. A good way to ensure you are accommodating the inevitable growth of your breasts is by sliding your hand into the upper cup section to make sure there is enough room for growth.
Sometimes the small things in life can make a huge difference. It is definitely the case with your maternity and breastfeeding lingerie. Make sure you select the right pregnancy bra for you!

inducing lactation easy or hard?
I have read articles online about it but i want to know actual peoples experience with it. What did you do to induce? Did you use any medications( a lot of the sites say that herbal supplements and certain rx drugs help)? Breast massaging techniques or pump or both?
I am thinking about adopting in the future but want to breastfeed if i am able to adopt a baby so am doing research now to see if it is worthwhile( I knos breastfeeding is worthwhile, but to induce) and how difficult it is to induce.
Please only personal experiences. Thank You!
2 hours and no one with personal experience. That tells you something.
If you want to do this, talk to La Leche League. If anyone knows how to induce lactation, they would.
HERBS FOR NURSING MOTHERS
OMG! I just found my smoking marijuana while nursing her son's best friend a month.?
I told him that this is not good for her, but she did not believes. Help! I love this kid!
You should read the research, if the research has even sources, sources of verification, search cheack multiple cuts, before drawing conclusions. Marijuana has been shown to have absolutely no negative side effect when the child is breast- MJ user once used during pregnancy. You simply must stop being so gullible and believing everything you read. His habit of smoking marijuana has no negative side effects the child. If you do not believe me, Google Melanie Dreher, she did a study on the effects of marijuana on children whose parents have used during and after pregnancy. If something you are using your child will make smarter.

My nipples have a red rash all around them…what’s going on?
I have been breastfeeding for seven months now and I just noticed in the mirror that my nipples have a red rash all around them. I don’t know what’s going on but this morning I woke up with a plugged milk pore and though its not plugged anymore, I am experiencing some soreness and it kinda itches way up on my breast…like by my armpit. But my nipple on the opposite breast is redder than the one with the plugged milk pore, but they are both red. It looks like a rash but doesnt actually itch or hurt..yet. I don’t know what’s going on. I wonder if the plugged pore and the rash has anything to do with each other. Has anyone experienced this?
PS. I don’t think it’s mastitis because I feel great (no temp or any other symptoms) and there is no pain so I don’t think is thrush or anything like that.
That cuz you are breast feeding and its been 7 months they are sore its normal. When you are not feeding put on some ointment then before you feed wash it it off that should work.
