Alternative to nursing pads?

I can nurse my baby and I was wondering if there was anything in the house that could be used as an alternative to nursing pads. I went, and I live in a small town, and I prefer not to pay small town prices, where I can get the same thing at Wal-Mart about 3 months. I'm not going to big up this weekend, fresh ideas. Thanks!

pantliners can be cut to size as well, and can not absorb shock enough, but it's worth, I heard that women do!

How Do You Build An Attachment With A Baby?

For some parents, building attachment with their babies comes naturally. They instinctively know what to do and how to bond with their babies from birth. For other parents, the process of building an attachment with a baby is a learning experience. Not surprisingly, since for many individuals these days, their baby is very likely one of the first or few babies they have ever had to deal with in their lives – unlike the past when having many children was common, many people had the benefit of experience from helping to look after younger siblings.

If you are a new parent feeling at a loss regarding how to build attachment with your baby, we will examine some effective ways to help you get started. Many of these can begin from as early as birth and most involve physical touch and spending time in close proximity to your baby. If you want to build a bond with another individual, you need to get to know them. One way of getting to know them is to spend lots of time with them. Likewise, if you want to form an attachment with you baby, it follows naturally that spending as much time as possible with your baby will help. Any activity you can do with your baby that fosters closeness will assist in building attachment.

1. Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding, especially in the early days, offers mothers plenty of opportunity to be close to their babies and to build up a relationship of trust. More than simply providing nourishment to the baby, breastfeeding helps to build a bond due to the frequent close proximity and skin contact between mother and baby. Nursing babies derive more than physical nourishment from breastfeeding as nursing also offers babies emotional comfort.

Through breastfeeding, a mother can learn to read her baby’s cues and non-verbal attempts to communicate his (or her) need for food or comfort. Additionally, the act of breastfeeding triggers the release of hormones which affect mothers on an emotional level. The strong emotional connection between mother and baby involved in breastfeeding can be observed when a mother nurses her baby versus when a mother attempts to express milk with a breast pump. The letdown reflex (the process by which matured milk moves from the back of the breast to the front) often comes quite easily when the baby is suckling but can be quite difficult to achieve when expressing milk with a breast pump.

2. Feeding

For Dads and mothers who have opted to bottle feed their babies, it is still possible to build attachment with a baby, although the benefits of the hormonal reaction and the natural bond that forms between a nursing couple (the mother and baby in a breastfeeding relationship) are missed. Here are some practices that can help:

  • Cuddle baby during feeds. There is a tendency with bottle feeding to prop baby up with a cushion or pillow and offer the bottle from a distance. To build an attachment, touch and closeness is required. To help foster that requirement, hold the baby as if you were intending to breastfeed.
  • Increase skin to skin contact. Bottle feeding without a shirt on can help to mimic the skin to skin contact between parent and baby similar to the nursing situation.

3. Co-sleeping

It is a natural survival instinct for a baby to seek the close proximity of a parent. In the wild, infants who are separated from parents become prey to predators and the risk of death is very high. Babies aren’t born with the awareness that the environment around them is safe and naturally seek the closeness of their parents, even at night. Co-sleeping offers babies the comfort and feeling of security of being near a parent.

Sleep studies have also shown that co-sleeping mothers respond to the movements of their babies even while sleep. It is evident that co-sleeping not only allows mothers to provide comfort and security to their babies, but at the same time mothers are also unconsciously developing an attachment to their babies.

4. Baby wearing

Babies also need to be near parents during the day as a baby makes no distinction between day or night. One way to keep your baby close to you during the day without physically immobilising yourself is to “wear” your baby in a baby sling or carrier. Baby carriers and slings allow parents to cuddle their babies while leaving their hands free.

Having your baby’s face close to yours fosters communication (from parent to baby and baby to parent). Parents can share observations and keep baby updated about what is happening. This is more likely to occur when your baby is being carried than when your baby is lying in a pram. Imagine trying to talk to your baby through the noise and commotion in a shopping mall – it would definitely be easier for your baby to listen to you when being carried rather than when lying in a pram.

5. Talking and Singing

Babies respond most eagerly to the sound of a real person’s voice, and even more so if that voice belongs to a parent. Babies can recognise their parents’ voices having heard them while in the womb. Sometimes the sound of a mother or father’s voice can be enough to calm a stirring baby. Studies have also shown that babies can be soothed more easily with songs that they heard their mothers sing to them during the pregnancy.

Some first time parents find it awkward to ramble to a baby who doesn’t appear to understand them, but don’t underestimate your baby who is absorbing a lot more that you think. Babies who have been spoken to a lot during the early months often learn to speak earlier than their peers. Learning to talk and sing to you baby takes time. While uncomfortable at first, remember that practice makes perfect.

6. Playing

Babies love to play. Play is one of the ways that help them learn about the world around them. Play is a special interaction between parent and baby that involves touch, physical closeness, and laughter – all ingredients for fostering a strong attachment.

Games that parents can play with babies might be bouncing games on the lap, rolling on the bed, tickling, learning about hands and feet and features of the face. As your baby grows older, you can play games such as rolling a ball, shaking noise-makers, or exploring cloth books.

7. Primary Care Giver

Don’t underestimate the bond that is being built as you bathe your baby, change his (or her) diapers, and respond to his (or her) other physical or emotional needs. By being the primary care giver to your baby, you will inevitably build an attachment with your baby as you learn to read his (or her) cues, body language, and attempts to communicate with you. This is evident with babies who express closeness to nannies or carers who look after them while their parents go to work.

Summary

Building an attachment with your baby is like making friends with a person who only speaks a foreign language. At first you may find it difficult to understand what your baby needs but as you spend more time with him (or her) you will begin not only to understand him (or her) but to build an attachment. While you do not necessarily have to follow each and every suggestion above, all of them will assist you in forming an attachment with your baby. The most fundamental part of bonding, however, is time spent together. It takes time to build an attachment with another person, likewise, with a baby, the more time you can spend, the better.

After a concert at the maid is a delicate arrangement. During the term of his employment contract, an adult woman is "taken" at home, sharing space privacy. Clearly, these permanent contact and close proximity affects the privacy of the family in a time recruiting and good aliens. It is therefore surprising many employers are not considered sufficient, and the planning of this unique situation, to ensure personal space and privacy of the individuals concerned.

For a life in harmony with your help at home, need to anticipate the privacy concerns of his family and the maid, and actively address these issues. This may be difficult because most people do not feel about their privacy requirements. Ignoring this problem would be uncomfortable for a short-sighted tactic and a recipe for the subsequent conflict.

We include below some tips to help you address the issue of privacy of a live-in domestic servant. As employers, the husband and wife must speak frankly and prepare before the "stranger" in the footsteps of his family home. Map back and specific plans and therefore not to minimize any intrusion into his personal life, marital and family life.

  1. Adjust your display of affection while hand holding, quick peck on the cheek and a hug before the TV is probably fine, it would be wise to keep an open romantic gestures outside of their normal view maid. Course sensitivity and decency are the obvious reasons to limit the sexual freedom of the spouses in the room. Less obvious but important point is to avoid feelings of loneliness and longing for his maid, who is far from their own relatives.
  2. Dress appropriately Some adult males are shirtless while weightlifting and exercises at home, some on foot from the shower to the closet with only a towel around his waist. Some people undress and discard the washer directly in the port with the following little or nothing to the washing machine in the privacy of their homes. Breastfeeding mothers lose their inhibition of breastfeeding their babies in the four walls of residence. Although natural, these behaviors must be mitigated with the presence of a stranger in the house. Different people have different levels of driving comfort and exhibitionist, and your daughter can get an education substantially more conservative.
  3. Skip the confidentiality of discussions and heated arguments in front of family members good sometimes disagree, but I always try to resolve disputes privately, without the support of appropriate meeting for both parties. Learn to resolve disputes amicably and quickly. lengthy litigation between employers is embarrassing for the participants and witnesses! (One member shared his good experience in our forum [http://www.maidaware.com/forum/index.php?topic=8.msg30 # msg30].)
  4. Respect personal space for each occupant the house all the world should have its own time and space to participate in the thoughts and private activities, such as personal care, recreation and rest. Promote respect of privacy in your home, and seek the cooperation of her maid and understanding, from engaging in certain activities without their participation. For example, you can plan a fortnight Date Movie with your spouse, or a trip with children in the home of his grandparents, without Marking the servant along. At the same time respecting their need for maid time to meet their own friends, and support their need to communicate regularly with his family in their home country.
  5. Maintain a communication channel We open with her maid cultural conditioning and social influence of our thoughts and behaviors. Despite their best intentions and efforts, cleaning can feel comfortable with certain practices in your home. Instead of allowing that frustration to escalate in the interior, you should get your comments from time to time. It can sometimes be trivial and simple easy to solve once it is made known. To cite, for example, our maid, who was ashamed to interact with the danger of a year our neighbor young children. This old man leaning forward to stroke the head of our daughter and chief operating officer. I think it's a warm and welcoming gesture, and raised arms while talking to my neighbor and play with him. In a casual conversation recently, our maid has finally revealed his fear and distrust of that close contact with a stranger. We are concerned about the encounters with this neighbor. As my employee, she felt obliged to imitate my friendly disposition towards humans, which is against their basic instincts. Upon learning of his feeling of "violating the privacy," I had a kind word with a neighbor, and solved the basic problem with quickly and successfully.

Share your home with a good living usually involves sacrifices in the area of personal privacy. This is particularly true in areas to be small and crowded urban apartments for middle-income families in Asia. With good preparation and good management, employers and girls to work and can live in harmony side by side.

Pain Relief Breastfeeding

Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain Relief

According to the Arthritis Foundation, Rheumatoid Arthritis affects 1.3 million Americans. Although there are several theories, so far, the cause of RA is still unknown. In addition, there is no cure to date, but it is getting easier to control RA through the use of remedies, exercise, and joint protection techniques. Advancements in research and improved Rheumatoid Arthritis pain relief options mean that more people with RA are living happier and healthier lives. Here are some facts about Rheumatoid Arthritis from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an inflammatory disease that causes pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of function in the joints. It occurs when the immune system, which normally defends the body from invading organisms, turns its attack against the membrane lining the joints.

Rheumatoid arthritis generally occurs in a symmetrical pattern, meaning that if one knee or hand is involved, the other one also is. The disease often affects the wrist joints and the finger joints closest to the hand. It can also affect other parts of the body besides the joints. In addition, people with rheumatoid arthritis may have fatigue, occasional fevers, and a general sense of not feeling well.

Features of Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Tender, warm, swollen joints
  • Symmetrical pattern of affected joints
  • Joint inflammation often affecting the wrist and finger joints closest to the hand
  • Joint inflammation sometimes affecting other joints, including the neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, ankles, and feet
  • Fatigue, occasional fevers, a general sense of not feeling well
  • Pain and stiffness lasting for more than 30 minutes in the morning or after a long rest
  • Symptoms that last for many years
  • Variability of symptoms among people with the disease

    What Causes Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Scientists still do not know exactly what causes the immune system to turn against itself in rheumatoid arthritis, but research over the last few years has begun to piece together the factors involved.

Genetic factors: Scientists have discovered that certain genes known to play a role in the immune system are associated with a tendency to develop rheumatoid arthritis.  Some people who have these particular genes never develop the disease. So, although a person’s genetic makeup plays an important role in determining if he or she will develop rheumatoid arthritis, it is not the only factor.

Environmental factors: Many scientists think that something must occur to trigger the disease process in people whose genetic makeup makes them susceptible to rheumatoid arthritis. A viral or bacterial infection appears likely, but the exact agent is not yet known.

Hormonal factors: Some scientists also think that a variety of hormonal factors may be involved. Women are more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis than men. The disease may improve during pregnancy and flare after pregnancy. Breastfeeding may also aggravate the disease. Contraceptive use may alter a person’s likelihood of developing rheumatoid arthritis. This suggests hormones, or possibly deficiencies or changes in certain hormones, may promote the development of rheumatoid arthritis in a genetically susceptible person who has been exposed to a triggering agent from the environment.

    Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain Relief Treatments

Doctors use a variety of approaches for rheumatoid arthritis pain relief. These are used in different combinations and at different times during the course of the disease and are chosen according to the patient’s individual situation.

    Goals of Treatment

    • Relieve pain
    • Reduce inflammation
    • Slow down or stop joint damage
    • Improve a person’s sense of well-being and ability to function.

Health behavior changes: Certain activities can help improve a person’s ability to function independently and maintain a positive outlook.

      • Rest and exercise: People with rheumatoid arthritis need a good balance between rest and exercise, with more rest when the disease is active and more exercise when it is not.
      • Joint care: Some people find using a splint for a short time around a painful joint reduces pain and swelling by supporting the joint and letting it rest.
      • Stress reduction: Although there is no evidence that stress plays a role in causing rheumatoid arthritis, it can make living with the disease difficult at times. Stress also may affect the amount of pain a person feels.
      • Healthful diet: With the exception of several specific types of oils, there is no scientific evidence that any specific food or nutrient helps or harms people with rheumatoid arthritis. However, an overall nutritious diet with enough—but not an excess of—calories, protein, and calcium is important.
      • Alternative and complementary therapies: Special diets, vitamin supplements, and other alternative approaches have been suggested for treating rheumatoid arthritis. Research shows that some of these, for example, fish oil supplements, may help reduce arthritis inflammation. Flexcin with cetyl myristoleate (CM8) can do wonders for arthritis and joints as it can reverse the damage caused by arthritis. Acting like a WD-40-like lubricant for joints, CM8 can promote optimal joint health by helping to stimulate the lubricating fluid in the joints, support stronger cartilage and increase total mobility.

As with any therapy, patients should discuss the benefits and drawbacks with their doctors before beginning a new type of therapy. If the doctor feels the approach has value, it can be incorporated into a patient’s treatment plan.

What Foods Should I Avoid While Breastfeeding?

Women in our culture are sometimes advised to avoid spicy or “gassy” foods when nursing. Or they are told that chocolate, citrus, carbonated beverages or dairy causes problems in all nursing babies.

As a breastfeeding educator, I often see women warning other Moms that they need to not eat certain foods while breastfeeding. There are also websites that give unproven breastfeeding advice that claim that women must eat a certain kind of diet in order to make quality milk for her baby. So what is the truth?

Does a nursing Mom need to restrict her diet? Are there foods that a Mom should stay away from while breastfeeding?

Generally speaking, a nursing Mom does NOT need to restrict her diet.

Obviously, drinking heavily or excessive caffeine consumption (meaning several cups of coffee a day) is a no-no, but other than that, there is no reason for a breastfeeding Mother to assume that she needs to shun any foods.

So called “gassy” foods do not affect the nursing infant because the undigested carbs that cause gas in Mom do not pass into breastmilk. It is literally impossible for “gassy” foods to cause gas in babies except in the rare case of an infant being allergic to one of these foods.

Interestingly, “In Italy, mothers are often told not to eat garlic, cauliflower, lentils, and red peppers. In India most mothers eat all these things and breastfeed very happily. Actually, in parts of India they believe that garlic helps a mother to breastfeed successfully!”

There are even a couple of studies that showed that babies nursed longer and with more vigor when their Moms ate garlic.

The advice given to a nursing Mom varies according to local culture and the popular “old wive’s tales”. Women all over the world eating a wide variety of foods produce good quality milk and have thriving babies. There is not a shred of evidence that supports the idea that eating a special diet helps make breastmilk “richer”.

Consequently, there is no one food that all breastfeeding Moms should avoid. Breastfeeding women should eat a variety of healthy foods, just as they did while they were pregnant.

The only exception would be if your baby has food allergies/sensitivies, which is rare but not unheard of. If your family has a strong history of allergy to a specific food (such as peanuts), you might consider avoiding that food while nursing and during pregnancy.

        Enjoy nursing your baby!

        Girls Breastfeeding Games

        My boyfriend and games!?

This had NEVER been an issue until recently but everytime we are at my moms he is on my brothers PSP and everytime we are at his sister he is upstairs on the 360 thing. I am left alone from the immediate time we walk in the door at his sisters, with 2 screaming kids and he goes straight upstairs to play video games. He doesnt understand that I am uncomforatable sitting downstairs alone and that I want him to stay by me. Am I being a baby? I dont want to “tag-along” either because I don’t want to seem needy and also the 2 screaming kids are his neices and always want to play with me. But I wish we could all “play” together or something?! The next time we were over at his sisters when we walked in the door, he went straight into his sisters room, where she just happened to be breastfeeding, and once again left me in the living room alone with the 2 screaming girls, wanting to play with me?! Why am I feeling SOO left out when I go over there? We are going tonight so I need some advice!?

Don’t go. You are not obligated to. He will never get it. I have a similar situation, only it’s a husband and his cousin. They are of a different culture, where the men are outside and the women inside. Yup – 2 kids running the place. I simply don’t go anymore. Eventually he will either get it and stop the undesired behavior, or accept going alone – either way you are not in an uncomfortable situation anymore.

        Breastfeeding Coloring Hair

        breastfeeding coloring hair
        i want highlights!?

ok, i avoided bleaching my hair during my whole pregnancy because i wasnt sure about the rules with the chemicals and stuff so we just did a peroxide free haircolor close to my natural color to minmize upkeep . Well my beautiful son was born on July 15 and i am ready ready ready for a change! I was thinking of adding some chunky highlights but since i am breastfeeding i am not sure what i can and cant do now. Also i would have to take him with me to the hair appointment and wonder whether i should be concerned with the fumes. I could keep him in his carseat a short distance away and make sure he is fed and content but if he should happen to wake up while i have a head full of chemicals what do i do then? am i doomed to sport this drab head of hair until he can sit with someone else during my appointment?

I remember what this was like! The first time I went to get my hair done, I had my husband come with me and I nursed my baby right before the appointment. Then I sent my husband and baby down the street to a coffee shop while I got my hair done. If my son got hungry, my husband knew to bring him right back and I’d nurse him and then send my husband on his merry way until I was finished.

The best part was that I could get my hair done in peace! If you can get your significant other or a friend or family member to help you at this first hair appointment, you’ll enjoy the experience more. And it’ll keep the baby out of the salon so you don’t worry about the fumes.

I wish I had that help when I went to the dentist the first time! My son screamed while the hygienist was scraping my teeth. I couldn’t wait to get out of there!

Good luck and please don’t worry about getting your hair done. You’ll feel more human again!

        Coloring Hair Breastfeeding

What’s the best way to repair my hair?

My hair used to be silky and fine but now it’s wirey and completely unmanageable! I haven’t colored it in a long time and I rarely use product on my hair so I know it’s not over-processed. During my pregnancy and while breastfeeding I lost a lot of hair and now that it has grown back each strand is thick and wirey. If I run my fingers along one single strand it’s not smooth at all. I get my hair trimed hoping that getting rid of any split ends will help but the softness lasts only until I wash my hair again. I’m taking vitamins but that doesn’t seem to be helping either.
Is there anything I can do to get my hair healthy and manageable again?

they have this new shampoo and conditioner from pantene.
its called pantene restoratives and i helps damaged hair from pregnancy and hair that’s over-processed. it also helps surface damage. it only takes a month for two years worth of damage to be silky and smooth again. hope i helped =]

        Women Breastfeeding Dog

        women breastfeeding dog
I have kind of a weird question about pregnancy.?

Okay, when I was pregnant with my first child my aunt’s baby always wanted to be around me until I had her and then she wanted to be around my baby. I just stopped breastfeeding my first baby and I tried to see if she still had a desire to breastfeed and she looked at me crazy. Well I found out I was pregnant a few days ago. She has been following me everywhere and crying and then when I pick her up and hold her she has a big smile on her face and/or she is pushing at my shirt like she wants to nurse again. My friend’s dog that always growls at me sat beside me the day that I found out and wouldn’t let anyone touch him but me. My question is do you think babies and animals since when a woman is pregnant?
i meant sense not since sorry

Animals have a very high sense of smell, I’m not sure that they know you are pregnant but they do smell a change because your hormones are way different than usual.

I’m not so sure about children… but last time I was pregnant (miscarriage at 3 months) my daughter who wasn’t even two yet lifted up my shirt and said “baby” and she did that over and over… A few weeks later I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant which would have put me at 5 or 6 weeks when she lifted my shirt and said baby… did she know or was it a coinsidence? I’m not sure but it blew my mind, and that is something I won’t ever forget… also a little story I can tell her when she is older.

A Closer Look on Daughter’s Fertility

A new research study has found and identified a chemical pathway by which a mother’s smoking before and after pregnancy might reduce her daughter’s fertility by as much as two thirds. As we all know, cigarette smoking during pregnancy is a definite no-no, and has been shown in retrospective studies to affect the fertility of a woman’s offspring. But this would be the first study that attempted explanation of the biology behind this effect, according to the Canadian scientists behind the research. The research was performed by a team from the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto that studied and investigated on the impact of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), a byproduct of smoking, on mouse fertility.

The study included injections of a low dose mixture of PAH to three groups of female mice. One group received PAH before conception and again when they were providing milk for their pups, while one group received PAH only before conception, and the third group received PAH only during lactation. A fourth control group did not receive PAH but were mated at the same time as others. The total amount of PAH given to each mouse over the three-week injection cycle was equivalent to 25 packs of cigarettes, according to researchers. The exposed mice did not have fewer pups in their own litters, but when the researchers investigated on the number of eggs in their female offspring, they found about 70 percent fewer follicles available to produce eggs.

According to the lead researcher Dr. Andrea Jurisicova, the mother (mice in this case), exposed to PAHs—environmental pollutants found in cigarette smoke, car exhaust, smoke produced by fossil fuel combustion, as well as in smoked food—before pregnancy and/or during breastfeeding, but not during pregnancy, can cause a reduction in the number of eggs in the ovaries of their female offspring by two-thirds. This limits the window in which the daughter will be able to reproduce.

The new data provides biological support for epidemiological results, such as the previously observed reduction in fertility among daughters of smoking women. According to Dr. Norman Edelman of the American Lung Association, “if we do our job right and these results get good press thus this data could remind women of what they are doing to their unborn fetuses.” Dr. Amos Grunebaum of New York Weill Cornell Medical Center also added that this is an interesting study, but does not add much, since other studies have also shown similar outcomes. The key point here is that women should quit smoking before they even think of getting pregnant.

Although the findings do not define the length of time between quitting smoking and healthier fertility in offspring, Jurisicova noted that previous studies have shown that women who smoke have better results with “in vitro” fertilization one year after they quit smoking. The mice in the current study conceived up to two weeks after their final PAH injection, which is approximately equivalent to three menstrual cycles in women. More research is still needed for this, but mothers should be aware of the dangers that smoking can bring to their future offspring even after knowing this specific research study.

Is there a law in Ontario about your baby sleeping in your bed?

I heard from an unreliable source that it is against the law and grounds for child’s aid to supervise you if you have your child in your bed. I find it hard to believe, myself – can any one shed some light on the subject? (My baby is turning 1 in March and has been sleeping with me because I was breastfeeding since about 4-5 months.)

I couldn’t find anything specific but you might find a place to ask on one of these groups: http://www.infactcanada.ca/Related_Links.htm.

I know sometimes here it can become an issue with Child Protective Services but only if there are other problems with the family. I’ve never read of them coming in to investigate just for co-sleeping but I’ve heard of it becoming an issue if there were other allegations of abuse/neglect that they were investigating.

Personally, I co-slept with both of my BF kids and both (now 12 and 8) are very well adjusted.

        Hair Color Breastfeeding

        hair color breastfeeding
I need a hair makeover (colour & cut)! Somewhat fair complexion, some red spots, brown eyes.?

1.My long hair is falling out because of the breastfeeding.
        2. It’s wavy.
        3. I have a round face.

Do you have any suggestions to make my life easier and prettier? thanks in advance!

i would go with a little shorter and do some layers, and for a colour, id what color it is now but with fair complexion you dont want to go to dark or too light so id go with like a golden or a honey brown colour

Quick Newborn Weight Gain = Obesity Later On?

I recently read an article about formula fed babies who, during their first week of life, gained weight very quickly and consequently were more apt to become obese as adults. Now, i’m exclusively breastfeeding, every three hours usually (sometimes less) and my 8 day old newborn (8lbs 10 oz) has already exceeded her birth weight by four ounces. I thought she would have lost weight because she doesn’t have a very good latch. I should note that I am also overweight (with continuously improving habits). Have any of you had a newborn who gained weight very quickly? Are they experiencing weight problems now? I want to believe that this research is bunk and that weight still comes down to calories in/calories out.

My daughter was 8lbs 9oz when she was born. I do breastfeed too. She lost 10 oz in the hospital because my milk hadn’t come in yet. The day I left the hospital my milk came in. 3 days later she had gained 1lb and an oz.
She is a month old now and is over 10 lbs! But she is completely normal. Breastfeed babies are always bigger babies than formula feed babies, but are generally thinner when they exceed 1 year.
Sometimes weight does have to do with genetics, but I don’t think that would be an issue this early on. Breast is best. Remember that. Some people think my 1 month old is 3 months. ahh…what are ya gonna do.
Keep breastfeeding. I know I don’t have to tell you the benefits. Sounds like you do your research.
Your baby is normal. Don’t worry.

        Pictures Of Men Breastfeeding

        Nothing sexual about breastfeeding?

Before you had kids you thought your boobs were sexy, didn’t you? You probably used low cut tops and bikinis to make yourself more attractive to men and to attract your husband. You probably dislike your husband looking at pictures of other womens breasts. So they are sexual.

So please tell me why its perfectly OK for you to whip them out in public just because your baby needs feeding and you can’t be bothered to find somewhere private. Do they suddenly become un-sexual just because you decide so? You were happy with them being sexual before you had your baby.
Luara – you miss the point. Did you wear low cut tops and generally your breasts to make you attractive to men before you had a baby? if so you are a hyppocrite.

I am a breastfeeding mom, and my son is approaching a year. I have never breastfed completely ‘in public’. Now that my son is older, and not nursing as frequently, I rarely need to nurse while we are out. If I am at a public place, like a shopping centre, I find the family bathroom, nursing room, or regular bathroom, and nurse there. If my son would leave a blanket over his head, I would nurse on a mall bench, but he is forever pulling the blanket up and/or off.

When I go out to someone else’s house, I will often ask permission to go into a bedroom and nurse there. But not always. If I am visiting my sister or mom, and know that they don’t mind, I will nurse in front of them. In my own home, I only go into a private space if I think other people in the room will be uncomfortable if they get a flash of nipple before or after my son latches on.

I agree that breasts are an erotic body part to most people, and could see why some people are uncomfortable seeing the breasts of a stranger. I disagree, however, with the way you have brought your concerns up. I think it is disrespectful to nursing moms to talk about ‘whipping them out’ and assume it is because they ‘can’t be bothered’. When you are caring for a crying, hungry, needy baby, you do what you have to as a mom. Some modesty may be appropriate, but your attitude is out of line.

        Women Breastfeeding Men

What does God think about homaphrodites?

And who are they allowed to be with if they are both male and female?
        Are they the ultimate sinner?
Christians what are they to do?

lol copy and pasted from google its correct

That’s a good question, and I’ve wondered about that myself. If you follow the belief that God doesn’t make any mistakes and that people are fearfully and wonderfully made, then hermaphrodites leave lots of unanswered questions. I think if I had a child born this way I would have him tested genetically to see if his DNA was male or female, and based on that I would raise him according to his DNA. It seems that most people choose to live they way they are genetically programmed to look, so that’s why I think that. Thankfully, I will never face that situation, and I could not even begin to judge another parent’s decision.

        Finding The Right Diaper Bag

When we have infants, we need diaper bags to store the things that our baby needs especially when we go out. There are several things you need to consider before purchasing any diaper bag.

First, you have to think about whether you should go for a small or bigger diaper bag. If you feel that you have a lot of things to be bringing with you wherever you go, a big diaper bag should be an appropriate choice. You also have to consider here the places you will be going to and the period of time you will be out. Most mothers however have one of each kind. A small diaper bag would be used for short trips maybe to the park or day care while the big one will be used for travel or overnight trips.

Would you go for a diaper bag with a shoulder strap or one in backpack design? A lot of the designs that are coming out in the market are in backpack design which is more convenient for any parent. With a backpack diaper bag, you have both hands free to take care of your baby and carry other stuff.

If you will be breastfeeding, you definitely would not need such a big diaper bag. You would need a big diaper bag to store bottles and milk formulas that you will be bringing along with you.

If you will opt to be using cloth as a diaper you would definitely be needing more bag space. You would be needing space not only for your clean cloth diapers but for the dirty ones as well.

Though most fathers are not conscious of the diaper bags they will be carrying, bag manufacturers are creating designs that are not obvious to be diaper bags. They are more stylish while offering the same purpose. These are for parents who prefer either a sporty or business look to their diaper bags.

For an idea of some of the best selling diaper bags take a look at them on http://www.ebags.com. They have brands like Sherpani, Okkatots, Diaper Dude and Kathy Van Zeeland. Avail of their discounted prices.

I would like to also mention here some important things that are essential in your diaper bag. Always bring with you some baby wipes, a portable changing pad if possible, plastic bags for dirty diapers and clothes and most importantly milk formulas for your baby.
