MY 91/2 MONTH OLD LOOKS LIKE A 3 MONTH OLD!!?

Hi everyone.

Well I have a nine month old who looks like he is three months old. He weighs 12lbs and a couple Oz. He eats and eats, and his PCP even suggested giving him more calories, plus he is breastfeeding on top of it. He is getting plenty but I dont know where he is storing it.

We are currently going to specialists and have numerous doctor appointments throughout the the month, but no one has yet gave him a diagnosis. Each appointment he gains a couple ounces, so he is gaining but very slow. He is seeing a cardiologist (mid size murmur, and right ventricle larger), and a Pulmonary specialist. Also, he has Tracheal Malaysia. I’m just wondering if anyone knows or heard of anything that is similar to the problems my son has, a diagnosis, the outcomes, suggestions, anything????

Thanks

i know a boy who is 7 but you would swear that he is like 4. he has a problem with growth horomones. he is perfectly heathly and i think they have decided to start giving him horomones in a pill to stimulate his growth. he is a very happy healthy, and other than his size, perfectly normal child. hopefully this is the most that your baby will have to deal with. best of luck.

My first experience with breastfeeding in public. Please share your experiences?

I knew it would happen one day. He expressed bottle before leaving the house. I realize I would be out for so long. My daughter already had a bottle. We were at a take away. Julia was hungry. I parked the stroller in front of me, and sat outside on a bench. I Nursing a shirt under my jacket and went on my jacket. Nothing has been exposed, except my baby. My mother (never fully breastfed and cons of breastfeeding) was sitting next to me. There were many people walking. My mom told you "should see the dirty looks people you "do not look at anyone. I was ashamed. I looked at my daughter all the time. Anyone can share their experiences.

Gosh, after reading all the answers, I'm sorry most of you have such difficulty nursing in public! I do not remember the first time exactly, but I think it when we went to our meeting, and the church Lamaze (reporting that banks are not very easy to nurse my knees are lower than the back). I think my husband was more shame, then I was, tried to put a blanket over me – what does not work when you are fat, big tits and a shield. I do not quickly realize when it became apparent that it would be impossible to easily breastfeed baby pacifier Wiggly juggling so diminished since I have the right to care that I may. The second time was a problem (which feeds the multitudes, as, in restaurants, in the car when he was out of the storm, the mall, at a rest stop in my house with my step-FIL see his grandson, at home with my brother when I was ashamed of my nephew the whip … It's just a fool!) When my sister and I went to our mother the airport with my son for six months. He was hungry, feed me – and as we sit a town far guys would sit very close (it was slow in the bottle) and then look above. It really bothered my sister, which irritated me more than I had met in the lobby to sit with us when there was a forest of empty chairs. His mother's perception of the world of you who receive public health care nursing is clouded by his bias, and I think that is a reflection of the poor think the rest of the world. Good for you, is to keep up!

OK to breastfeed while walking around shopping?

I took my 2 week old son shopping and he eats all the time. Whenever he ate I just fed him, while walking to the store from the van, while walking around shopping. I had my daughter push the cart and just fed him under a blanket. He ate alot. We were in the city for hours and I fed him in sotres about 4-5 times. I kept asking my 7 year old, “Does it look like I am breastfeeding?” and she said it didnt’ look like it at all. Is that OK. I mean he has to eat, I have to shop. And he eats ALOT and cluster feeds. I can latch him on without looking now so it was actaully really easy. I dont’ think it was obvious. Has anyone else done this?

Yes, i did this as well. It didn’t matter to me if people knew I was breastfeeding, as long as my breast was never exposed (my preference). Breastfeeding is natural. I nursed 5 of 6 kids and used the same discretion as you. And I appreciate it when other women use the same discretion. So yeah-I’d have to say your OK ;p

Breastfeeding moms, where do you buy your nursing tops?

I would prefer a store, not online, because I would like to have them before going on vacation in a few days.

And more modern nice tops, not frumpy looking ones like I saw at motherhood maternity the other day.

Ebay, mostly. I agree- Motherhood nursing clothes must be subsidized by the formula companies, because they are generally hideous. I get mostly Motherwear and Expressiva, but they’re primarily online merchants.

I have several nursing tanks I bought at Target that layer well. Old Navy has some nursing clothes at their stores that carry maternity, but in my experience they’re not well made and don’t work terribly well as nursing clothes. You might call around to any specialty maternity or baby stores in your area and ask what they carry.

Ideas please – clothing for breastfeeding?

I breastfeed my child in 6 weeks and go to a wedding a few weeks. I wore a dress, but realized it would be a nightmare for breastfeeding! Ideas for a good style of clothing that will let me feed discreetly? I refuse to eat in a toilet and I will not have a car there! And I can not express and bottles, because I will be in the wedding throughout the day and my breasts will explode if the diet! Emma – I have the intention to be discreet – that's why I am asking this question! I am not getting on stage and do it! Obviously not my day but I'm sure people do not want to hear mourn my baby is hungry! Good luck with the baby. Susi – My baby is invited to the wedding as I was. And he does not cry is not that they feed me!

Suze Hi, good on you. Emma seems more not be concerned about the comfort of your baby. If others are uncomfortable is your problem. When my daughter was 1mth old, his first run was a marriage and express so the bottles come into the equation, that breast milk in the country and was sure going to breastfeed anywhere else. I got a higher rate cami (this could be a regular "wife-beater vest top to match the General Team). I also Incase change the baby" sick "of it. Over wrapped in a pashmina. This meant that I could easily get the Fed and the baby blanket for those who were objectifying My 38Gs uncomfortable because my baby was actually use so they were created.

Queen Bee Maternity Donates $2000 to Victorian Bushfire Appeal

The 2009 Victorian Bushfire Fund to assist individuals and communities affected by devastating bushfires in Victoria has been launched by the Premier John Brumby in partnership with Red Cross and the Federal Government. Queen Bee Maternity Pty Ltd has generously donated $2,000 to help families affected by this crisis.

Facts to date:

  • More than 180 lives lost with the number expected to increase as authorities access more homes and discover vehicles in which people attempted to escape the fires. Our biggest role now is personal support, offering assistance to people returning home and coming to terms with the magnitude of the disaster.
  • Currently we are involved in the response phase providing temporary accommodation and food in 18 evacuation centres. We have registered more than 10,000 people in person, and provided thousands of first aid treatments. We have a team at Kinglake and Whittlesea helping with medical requirements, food and name registration so family and friends know they are safe and well. Our team is also offering personal support as this is going to be a very difficult time for people affected.
  • People from around Australia and around the world are phoning through to our Inquiry Centre to check on family and friends. Volunteers who are trained in personal support are relaying heartwarming as well as heartbreaking, stories as the calls come in.
Our Inquiry Centre has taken more than 17,000 enquiries with more than 11,000 people registered.
  • Over 400 volunteers and staff continue to work in rotating shifts. Red Cross call centres in WA, ACT and NSW have opened to help deal with the volume of calls from people checking on the welfare of evacuees.

So come on guys – despite the gloom of the economic crisis I’m sure that other Australian businesses out there can afford to donate too. Other parts of the world will be surprised to know how Australians come together in times like these with over $85 million raised to date….

To make your donation please visit the Australian Red Cross website here http://www.redcross.org.au/default.asp

our thoughts and love to all those affected…

Post-pregnancy clothes?

I had a baby 3 mo ago and was shopping for clothes for my new body which is probably size 4-6. Almost everything that I tried on just doesn’t look good on me anymore. I put on a pair of pants – my love handles falling out, I try on a cami top – everything else does (love handles, breasts…). I am breastfeeding too so that eliminates most of tops and dresses. I checked out nursing tops at gap.com and pea-in-the pod – the selection is small and boring. I am not really picky just want a few pieces that look good and functional. Does anyone know a store that sells post-pregnancy clothes?
PS: maternity clothes are too big now
Thanks a lot for all your answers and advice.
As far as going size up, I tried that. Pants would be fine around waist but too big around hips…:(

I don’t know of any store that sell post-pregnancy clothes, sadly. Button-down tops are great for breastfeeding, and they tend to look great.

It’s always a shock when you don’t have your old body back. Just relax and buy what fits and looks good. Who cares if it’s a larger size than you would like? I suggest using the flaws you are pointing out and getting clothes that make you look good. Those clothes can be purchased anywhere if you know what to look for.

How I can lose some weight, substantially, while pregnant?

I'm about 8 weeks pregnant and have about 1 1 / 2 stone from 18 age my son was born. I went to a size 12/14 uk rapidly due to breastfeeding, but I'm a stay the father, if I'm not really get the exercise of that right, and it was very easy to collect and eat the wrong foods and am now a size 16 and up that can be tightened. I really want to lose weight, maybe a size clothes, I am concerned, I'll just keep doing more and find it too difficult to move the weight once the baby is born. Can this be done safely? Does anyone has advice or suggestions

Just eat as healthy as possible, get some exercise (although it is likely to get a lot with 18 months of age) – anything hard walk for about 30 minutes a day if you have the power – and once the baby is born, the breast all the time you can lose weight while healthy Eating Plan, but no. Do not make a plan now, really the only thing you can do is not give in to cravings for chocolate (I used to eat bacon for the platesful when I was pregnant, so I know it's hard not to give a needy). If you have a need for something unhealthy, eating one serving twice a week (no more) just to satisfy the desire after eating something very healthy after …

Breastfeeding mothers: breastfeeding question… Embarassing to mention… itchy nipple???

I have one itchy nipple and I don’t know why. The tip is red. The other nipple is red at the tip too but not itchy. Why could this be happening? I use baby laundry detergent by “All”, Lansinoh and disposable breast pads by Gerber. Also, when I get cold they HURT!
baby is 3wks old

It could be that the nipple was “raw” and is healing now that you are getting more used to breastfeeding….and as the tender spot is healing it may be a bit itchy. When I was breastfeeding whenever it was cold there was pain, I’m not sure about why on that one though I think that it is because the area is just more sensitive. Good luck.

How do you feel about breastfeeding in public?

Also, if a woman did not “cover up,” hence, opened her shirt and nursed with a nursing bra, with only a small portion (or none) of the breast exposed, would you take issue with it?

Only 40 states have laws that specifically allow women to breastfeed in any public location.

I love to see moms breastfeeding in public. For every mom who does that, hopefully she shows one mom who is too scared to do so that it is OK, and that breastfeeding moms don’t have to be sequestered.

How do I get my 1 year old daughter to stop breastfeeding?

I still nurse her, only at night to get her to fall asleep. I really want to stop because it’s not comfortable for me, honestly it hurts. And not only that but my husband is really getting on me to stop because he wants my breasts back, he keeps saying I gave them up for a whole year and you were supposed to quit after she turned one….well anyway, I know it’s my body and whatever, but I just wants some advice preferably from someone who has gone through a similar situation. She just won’t quit, she tugs at my shirt and screams uncontrolably until I nurse her at night. HELP!!!!!

Find another routine that works for her at bedtime that does not involve breast feeding. It may cause crying for a few nights, but she’ll get over it fast. Make sure she has a full tummy and plenty of fluids to drink. That’s the best I can do. Don’t forget – as long as she’s safe, fed, clean, dry, and had a drink – crying is okay as long as you check in on her from time to time to give her a sense of security that you are still there but she’s not going to get what she wants by crying. Stay strong!!! By the way – my husband would be the same way :)

Public breastfeeding vs. publicly dressing in barely anything. Why is the latter found to be more acceptable?

I would really like to hear anybody’s opinion on this and get an idea of everyone’s different viewpoints – men, women, mothers, etc.

I get a little frustrated when I see/hear about a mother getting chastised for using her body in a way in which it was naturally meant to be used, by feeding her child, yet we, as a society, don’t even think twice about the girl/woman wearing clothing that leaves little or nothing to the imagination. I feel that if we can accept the scantily clad, then we shouldn’t make a mother to feel uncomfortable about performing one of the most natural and normal functions of the human body.

Just curious as to how people form their opinions on this. All answers/opinions appreciated.

In a way I agree with you, but in another way I don’t. As a somewhat conservative dresser, I in no way approve of scantily clad women. I see no point in women wearing clothing that cover up just enough to be legal–I think it’s a disgrace. Some women will argue that they dress this way because of the weather or because it makes them feel sexy, but it attracts the wrong kind of attention. There’s nothing wrong with dressing a little flirtatiously, but clothing should still cover a substansial part of the body. As for women breast feeding, I have no problems with women wanting to nurse their children as long as they’re being discreet about it. I know from personal experience there are ways to nurse your child without revealing your breast to the public eye.

Where online can I find statistics on the worldwide average age to stop breastfeeding?

I understand the age is between 4 and 5. I am looking for this information from highly regarded sources, such as the WHO or UNICEF but am unable to find it on their sites. Preferably I need something which also stresses the advantages of continuing to breastfeed up until the international average age to stop. Thanks.
