Breastfeeding When To Stop

breastfeeding when to stop
how do i stop breastfeeding? and when is a good time to stop?

my son is 16 months almost and he still breastfeeds at night only, he will not go to sleep without his boobie in his mouth, ive tried a nipple or a bottle but he’s smarter than that. I’ve read that a kid is lucky to be breastfed till 2 yrs old. any suggestions on how to stop and if its ok if i start trying to stop ?

When to stop breastfeeding is a personal choice for you and your baby. I know plenty of moms who are still nursing kids over the age of 2 and there’s nothing wrong with it as long as the kid is getting good solid meals, vitamins, and calcium from other sources such as cheese, yogurt, fortified foods, etc.

If you want to stop nursing, just cut out the bedtime feeding. Give him a sippy cup with some milk or water at bedtime, but don’t let him take it to bed with him or it will rot his teeth. For example let him drink it while you read him a story. Hold him and cuddle him if you want to just don’t nurse him. It might take a while and you may have to change your bedtime routine, but after a couple of weeks of not nursing your milk will start to dry up and taste different and he won’t want it anymore even if you did let him try it.

Btw, I can’t believe some of the crap advice some people give here! Whoever suggested that a 16 month old should be out of diapers or that you should give him formula with cereal obviously hasn’t been a parent to a baby in 20 or so years because times have changed, people!

The girl to the right is about 14 and the right is 19, that what it siad on the site.
I mean the girl on the left is about 13, and the on on the right is 19.

Not Breastfeeding Mastitis

Breastfeeding. Sharp breast pain, mastitis or thrush?

It doesnt LOOK like either. What is this, usually? Not while breastfeeding and also a little while breastfeeding…

just looking for input, thx in advance! :-)

If only one breast is constantly sore and tender…it’s likely mastitis.

However, if the pains are sharp, shooting pains in both breast and more in the breast tissue than in or around the nipple…that sounds more like thrush.

Contact a local La Leche League Leader for help. If a doc gives you the dx of thrush…please, oh please contact LLL for the correct dosing info of Diflucan…it should be a 400 mg loading dose and then 200mg/day for 14 days. Anything less than that will be ineffective.

You can find a local leader at www.llli.org

Breastfeeding Weaning Engorgement

Breastfeeding While Pregnant

Reasons to Stop A few reasons you might want to stop breastfeeding may be if you are feeling constantly drained of energy. Or maybe your child has started to bite. Sometimes your milk will just dry up, this is your body’s way of telling you that it has had enough and to take a break. Mastitis could play a big role in making you stop immediately as well. Mastitis is an infection in the breast when it isn’t expressed enough and gets engorged.

Stopping or Weaning If you do plan on stopping because you are pregnant, make sure it is for the right reasons. If your child has reached a certain age, it might be best. But never just yank it away from them. Your child could wonder why it is being taken away. Wonder if they had done something or become discouraged about the new baby coming. Some children decide to wean themselves, which is a big help to you and you won’t feel so guilty about it. You can choose to do it cold turkey, or slowly wean him/her off. Cold turkey can have some bad results. Try limiting his/her feeding times to certain hours and gradually as time passes take away more. Your child will quickly stop on his/her own and it won’t be a traumatic event.

Continuing to Feed If you do plan on continuing to breastfeed while you are pregnant, talk with your doctor about it. Not all the time will the doctor agree with your decision. Sometimes he/she may see something in your health that you don’t. Listen carefully and find out if it is a health reason or simply his/her own belief. If it is the doctors belief, you can always seek out one that agrees with you. Being pregnant is hard enough at times, knowing you have someone in your corner will only relieve the stress. Don’t be surprised if your family and friends want to say something about it and they will probably give you all kind of advice on how to stop and what they’ve read. Nicely explain to them it is your decision and you”ll do what you think is best for your children. Try finding a support group in your area so you have someone to vent to or talk about these issues. Check out if there is a La Leche League near you or online that you can join.

Stopping Breastfeeding Engorgement

Drying up and engorgement?

I know this question has been asked over and over, but I recently stopped breastfeeding. My doctor never told me going cold turkey would be a issue. She didnt recommend weaning. She just said wear a sports bra and ice them and you would be OK after a couple days. Well it has been a week and I am still painfully engorged. I do not think it is an infection but they are painful to the touch, very hard and I still have a lump by my armpit. I figured once they started to dry up engorgement would ease but it hasnt. She told me not too pump because this would start up production again but I am in pain all day and I would like relief. Is it normal for your breasts to remain engorged for that long? I sent a message to my doc but it wont be till Monday. Any advice? Am I going to be ok?

I have tried cabbage leaves off and on and ice but still they are hard as rocks
My baby is 8 weeks old

Yes. I remember it hurt so bad. I finally had my aunt (she’s a nurse) to wrap me with ace bandages really tight around my breast. It soon dried up after that. I’m so sorry you are hurting like this. The second go around I did not hurt at all and the only difference with the 2 is that with my first child I pumped a good bit and with my second I did not pump at ALL. Just some advice for the next go around.

They don’t give the meds anymore because it is linked to cancer and I had the lumps under my armpits as well.

Birth Control while breastfeeding

After a woman becomes pregnant when she was a nurse? How can you prevent pregnancy and not cause harm the baby? Here are the facts that nursing mothers and hopes need to know.

A woman can get pregnant when she was a nurse. To avoid pregnancy during breastfeeding, have few options for birth control.

Sex after childbirth

He used women have been warned not having sex until six weeks after birth six weeks of their examinations. If you feel comfortable with that, then you can expect. However, the vagina tends recover after about two weeks and the cervix remains closed after two weeks. If you have no complications, can have sex more than two weeks after delivery. Ask your doctor if there are reasons why they should not. You may not want to have sex after birth: hormones dramatically change a woman having been pregnant, and sometimes are not sexually charged. If you are interested in sex, knowing that you can be fertile again as soon as two weeks after having your baby. Be aware of your choice and contraception correctly.

Amenorrhea Method (LAM)

Sometimes also called feeding methods. This is the method that has confused some people about whether or not to get pregnant during lactation. If you choose to breastfeed your baby and do not give your baby milk from others, you can see their fertility.

This means that you feed your baby every four hours (both breasts). At night, you should feed your baby at least every six hours.

You can use this method if you are breastfeeding, and if you have not had a period since the birth of your baby. This method only works for six months after birth the baby, then you must use another method.

Barrier methods

Barrier methods of birth control do not harm your baby. These include condoms, female condoms, sponges, and barrier methods based on the prescription. With many prescription barrier methods, you have to wait six to eight weeks after childbirth: are These include diaphragms, cervical caps and shields.

If you use a method based on the barrier with spermicide, make sure the vagina has healed before using a spermicide and sexual intercourse.

Hormonal methods

This means that you can not take combined pills can not be stamped, and you can not use a vaginal ring. The Estrogen is found in breast milk and affect your baby and also affect your milk production.

You can, however, the only methods progestin birth control. This includes progestin pills sometimes called mini-pills, Depo-Provera and Mirena, a hormonal IUD (intrauterine device). Many Doctors say that progestins are too large to pass into breast milk and affect your baby.

Other doctors, however, are reluctant to use contraceptives progestin. Dr. Cindy McClain Pearman, a family practitioner in Knoxville, Tennessee, says that "mini-pills and Depo are not supposed to affect [] provides milk, but I've seen it happen often, especially with the mini-pill.

If you feel unsure about the use of hormonal methods contraception, you can always choose another form of birth control, be it abstinence, a barrier method or a method of fertility awareness.

IUD: Intrauterine Device

You can use a copper IUD while breastfeeding, that does not affect your breast milk. The IUD is a device that is inserted by your doctor. This means that you will not be able to conceive until they are removed by a professional. Often women report postpartum IUD easier.

Natural methods

You can choose to control their fertility after the baby is born. This can not happen until you have his first term. To learn how to control their fertility will have to talk to an expert, ask your doctor or local clinic, or a group of women. You refrain from intercourse during their days at risk or have plans to use an alternative method.

Having just completed a baby can be a magical place (But tiring) experience. Family planning can help, the couple and their baby. Choose option that seems right for you.

Stopping Breastfeeding

How I can know if breastfeeding is stopping me pregnant?

Is there evidence that can be made or signs? The responses to "let breastfeeding "is not welcome, thanks. I've been mapping since February BBT if I know that my ovulation. My LP is shorter than the recommended minimum of 10 days. Do not know if it's because of BF, stress (more inclusive) or just me?

Well to continue breastfeeding! :) If you are already charting basal temperature body and the signs of fertility (Hooray!), namely whether or not you are ovulating. It appears that you – what is good! – But your luteal phase seems a bit short. The best thing to do would be to plan a visit to her obstetrician / gynecologist or midwife to ask questions about your options. I know there are treatments that help prolong the luteal phase progesterone but I'm not aware of their compatibility with breastfeeding. Your doctor can answer for you! But to answer your question – breastfeeding can prevent ovulation and thus prevent conception, but because you know you're ovulating, I would say that breastfeeding is not prevented from conceiving. Good luck!
