My baby is weaning itself of breastfeeding if I start to give additional formula?
I reallywant breastfeeding 3 years monthes baby there that I feel good, but my breast is not producing enough milk more. I fear that if a full stop breastfeeding when they begin to give more milk. Please help.
At this age young people, it is possible that if you start giving extra milk, especially if given a bottle (which this age is what you probably do), then you can decide to stay just in the bottle, which also run the risk of losing more of their milk. Are you sure that is not producing enough milk over – with my first baby after 3 months, I felt exactly the same way – I just do not produce enough for me son as he was finishing his food more quickly, my breasts felt much softer, even at the beginning of a meal he started to sleep through 45 minutes at a time. I talked to some of the midwives in my work and assured me that I had too much milk in the first weeks, as long as you feed every three hours or if I should still lots of milk – the difference is only three months the breasts have been established then do only what the baby needs, since only three months, many babies go through a growth spurt so maybe I need to be fed more frequently for a few days and my son began to rise earlier, probably because of that, but to become a habit for him. I finished breastfeeding my son exclusively until 10 months and did not begin until about 5 1/2months solid. I think it probably has to do with her weight gain, general health, and the number of wet diapers, have to see if they are not really enough milk – if you do not think enough weight or not having enough wet diapers a day, while you may have is your nurse or the top with the formula – but only note that for some babies may end up just go to the formula. All the best!

Although Breastfeeding is a natural process, it is mostly a learned art. Obstacles are the norm, but it is the best start that a mother can give her new baby. Breastfeeding benefits both mothers and babies, it protects babies from disease, and women who have nursed have substantially lower rates of breast cancer. I gave birth on Friday morning and now my breasts are swollen. I'm not breastfeeding, pump is not working and my daughter can not block on my chest. We went to the formula and now I'm in extreme pain .. someone please help?! I need some advice!
You are four days after birth, so that the milk is coming is very normal to be so congested. If you are thinking about and want to give her milk to her beautiful baby, soak your breasts in a basin of hot water, use warm compresses or take a hot shower to get the blood flowing into the region and help soften your breasts. This will lock pumping or easier. If you do not want to nurse or pump, then you need to use cold compresses to the breasts, as you would in any another area of inflammation. The bags of frozen peas great job to fit your shape. You can also use pieces of cabbage in your bra ….. strange, but help. However, ibuprofen may help relieve inflammation.

For many years now, the world has been told that one of the best gifts that a mother could give to her baby is to breast-feed (nourish) him or her. Due to this, many people have been actively pushing for parents to choose breast-feeding over formula. However, with providing ones baby with the best food, comes with its own challenges and due to them, a pump can be very useful.
Some of these challenges are:
Engorgement
Breast engorgement (enlargement and overflowing of the breast due to milk) is a common occurrence for women who have just given birth. This painful and at times fever causing issue, can be handled in a few ways and three of them are: breast feeding the baby even more often than you are doing presently, expressing some of the milk with your fingers and of course use a pump.
Medication
There are differences of opinions when it comes to medication transferring from the mother to the baby via nursing. Nevertheless, there are cases where mothers who are on medication will need to stop nursing for at least 12 hours and this is where a pump will come in handy. You can store some of your milk in the refrigerator or freezer before taking the medication so that your child remains well fed.
Away from Baby
If you are a mom who will be working away from home, pumping and storing your milk will also be profitable for you and your baby.
Bonding for Fathers
Breast-feeding is one of the best ways that a mother can bond with her child and bottle-feeding breast milk is an avenue that fathers can use to bond with their child as well. At nights when mummy can hardly open her eyes to attend to the baby, daddy can step in by taking the bottle.
Measurements
“New” mothers are usually anxious about how much milk their babies are getting and therefore desire to know exactly how much they are drinking. Therefore, by pumping the milk into a baby’s bottle will give you the measurement.
Therefore, if you believe that a pump will be helpful to you, you have a choice of three types to choose from and they are electric, battery operated and manual.
Breastfeeding Video – Breastfeeding Tips On Scheduling
I am currently in the process of weaning my son from breastfeeding. He’s turned 1 two weeks ago I have been cutting him down 1 feeding at a time and am now to just 2 feedings a day (once in the morning and at night) By the time his night feed rolls around I am pretty full and I’m worried about the engorgement after I fully wean him. I have heard and read about using cabbage leaves, but do not know anyone that has used them. Have you used them? Were they effective? Thank you in advance!
I can’t tell you how much cabbage leaves helped me. When it was time for me to stop breastfeeding I became so engorged and it hurt so bad. I would take the leaves apart from the cabbage and keep them in the fridge. Then just took a whole leaf and formed it around my breast in my bra and it was like heaven. It helped with the pain and it helped me to dry up fairly quickly.

Much has been written about the importance of a healthy and balanced diet. There has been much debate in the press, in the end, the importance of a healthy diet to prevent breast cancer. Most will agree that maintaining a healthy diet is a good idea, whatever the motivation. Speaking breast cancer, we will explore some food that has been shown to help prevent breast cancer.
Foods that are rich in folate or folic acid are extremely beneficial. It is a B vitamin that is rich foods like spinach, romaine lettuce, beans, peas, asparagus and Brussels sprouts. You can also found in many cereals, pasta and bread. Research has shown that mutations in DNA are more prone to occur when a person has a deficiency of folate or acid folic.
Vitamin D has also shown promising results in protecting against cancer. It is a vitamin that helps the absorption of calcium, which is vital for the development of strong bones and teeth. A recent report by the American Association States cancer research that the risk of developing cancer breast can be reduced by over 50% with the help of vitamin D. There are different sources of foods containing vitamin D, including milk, eggs, cod, salmon and shrimp. It is also provided in abundance by the sun. Ten minutes a day in the sun without sunscreen and 40% of their body exposed, can produce much vitamin D. 5000IU
Tea has been praised for centuries for its healing abilities, and modern scientists have begun to confirm what our ancestors observed for the first time. Tea is rich flavonoids, which are known to have antioxidant properties. Kaempferol, a type of flavonoid, has shown protective effects against cancer. Research continues in this exciting field, but the general consensus is that 4 cups of tea a day can have lasting benefits for health.
Curcumin has also shown promising results in cancer prevention. Is the active ingredient of turmeric, a type of curry. The research was carried out for decades, and it seems that curcumin has very powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-tumor. Also been shown to interfere with signaling pathways cell, which works to suppress the transformation and proliferation of cancer cells. There are great Indian restaurants there, so get out and enjoy a healthy dinner Curry.
Research in these areas continues at an amazing rate, but for many people is too late for prevention. Sometimes it may seem that we are losing the battle against cancer, but there is still hope. Research and treatment advances are made every day. While continuing to support its facilities and local cancer research organizations, and have faith that the cure this horrible disease one day be found. Meanwhile, think about your diet. Could save your life.

Experts raise lots of concerns over the use or abuse of pacifiers in many ways. Pacifiers are associated with causing ‘nipple confusion’ in infants and premature weaning. A newborn is born with the natural instinct to suck on anything that is placed in their mouth, such as a finger and even an artificial nipple. A baby that is easygoing or ill, jaundiced or small may develop sucking as a substitute to feeding, if their urge is suck is being answered at every whim. Babies can easily get used to the idea of sucking if they find it soothing, and an anxious parent may find it an easier solution to give their baby a pacifier, if it helps the baby to sleep better for longer periods inbetween feeds. This can result in problems like a poorer weight gain, and for a mum who is breastfeeding, this can cause engorgement, mastitis, plugged lactation ducts and a decrease in their milk supply. The Sucking reflex in a baby is between the hard palate and soft plate at the back of their mouth, so artificial nipples and pacifiers are designed in such a way to simulate that very spot. The pacifier can actually cause changes in the arch of the soft bony roof inside the mouth, so that it moulds itself high and narrow to the shape around the pacifier. This may create a ‘lazy baby’ causing them to have trouble when they draw mum’s nipple far back enough into their mouth to simulate the same sucking reflex that they have during their feeds.
Avoiding the two common and very harmful practices of using pacifiers is very important for your baby. The pacifier should not be tied so that it is within your baby’s reach at all times should they get the urge. Once a baby becomes more mobile and is learning to roll and crawl, they risk the dangers of strangulation. It is also not a good idea to dip the pacifier into something sweet such as honey, as this could introduce cavities in your baby’s teeth. Infants when they are so young do not go for regular dental checkups like the older children and adults, so you want to avoid any harm that could come to your baby’s teeth which will result in a lot of pain and discomfort.
Finally, beware at all times that they you do not use a pacifier excessively. A baby that is obviously not crying or being fussy, will not need a pacifier so don’t encourage it. Think before you give your baby a pacifier – are you really soothing them or yourself?

are my breasts going back to their small size after breastfeeding?
i had very small breasts before i got pregnant less than an A cup, they grew during my pregnancy a little to fill a cup A and by the end of my pregnancy i was a cup B. now as i’m breatfeeding i’m a B and a C when overfull..most books say they go back to their normal size, i was hoping they wouldnt…what was anyone’s experience?
Actually, I have heard it both ways. Some have had the A cup before, and then they got smaller. But e.g. my wife was ¼ A before, and ½ A after ;o)
So you will just have to wait and see – and in the meantime enjoy that the possible worries you might have had as a teen (that they were not sufficient) were completely unfounded.

Head lice are tiny wingless parasitic insects that exist and multiply on people’s heads. They are 1-2 mm long and dull brown in color. They are hematophagous as they nourish themselves by biting people’s scalps. These very small insects are a irritant not a health peril. However, there is some opportunity of bacterial illness caused by too much scratching which makes the skin red and raw, and causes inflammation as well.
Pediculosis is common with children aged 3-10 years and their families, therefore any person coming in near head-to-head contact with an infested person can also contract lice. According to moderate estimates by the Toronto Public Health Association there are 6-12 million people worldwide who contract head lice each year. Furthermore, they can also be transmitted by means of distribution of hats, scarves, combs, hair ribbons, pillows, brushes, towels and helmets.
A research conducted by Kosta et al at the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem indicates that boys are drastically less infested with lice and nits than girls (lice: 15.2 and 29.6%; nits: 21.5 and 35.4%, respectively). For those children that have long hair there is a considerably higher chance of getting nits and lice (68.9%) and medium-length (63.9%} hair with those children that have short hair.0%).
Treatments
One should completely comb the total scalp with a lice comb and the teeth of that comb must be examined carefully to notice any lice. For children with, foul, long and frizzed hair, an alternative method of analysis is to examine the hair at 2 cm intervals and look for lice near the scalp. Kosta et al have further found some additional interesting particulars about both the aforesaid techniques, “diagnosis of louse infestation using a louse comb is four times more effective than direct visual going over and twice as fast”. However, special interest must be paid to the areas close to the ears and the nape of the neck with both methods. However, it is advantageous to use a magnifying glass to detect lice in the scalp or the teeth of the comb.
If women are inflicted with infestation during their pregnancy or breastfeeding they should straight away contact their doctor and utilize the prescribed medicines and/or anti-lice shampoos, balms etc. In case of a seizure disorder or a skin infection one must refer to a physician for appropriate handling.
There are some other common head lice home remedies such as using vinegar, petroleum jelly, mineral oil, baby oil, cooking oil, tea tree oil etc. Conversely, such techniques are not recommended because their value has not been scientifically documented. The itching in head could be due to a number of reasons such as dandruff in which case all the above mentioned techniques would be unsuccessful to rid pruritus and scratching. Thus, it is highly recommended that those suspecting infestation see a Dermatologist to obtain a full scal examination.

Before I had my baby, I picured myself sitting in a quiet room… Looking at my baby while breastfeeding him, and all being right in my world.
But now that almost 6 mos have past I see that having 2 other little ones running around the house, breastfeeding is not allways the way I had pictured. And I find myself doing things I never thought I would be doing while breastfeeding at the same time. LOL
So my question is… What’s the strangest or funniest thing you have done while breastfeeding…. (I know I can’t be alone on this one).
We went on a long trip while I was breastfeeding and i actually had to get up over the top of my sons car seat so that we could make it more than 30 minutes or so before he was upset and wanted out. I also was in a wedding and while decorating me and 2 other friends had to sit on the floor in the middle of the reception hall surrounded by tulle and table runners and nursed. I’ve also made dinner, shopped in walmart and met somebody in an airport terminal all with a baby strapped to my boob.

I’m just asking out of curiosity. I had a breast reduction so it is most likely that I won’t be able to when I get older and have kids. So my question is, is it bad that I won’t be able to?
And also, my body would produce the milk, how do I get rid of it since all the nerves and everything aren’t the same as they used to be before my surgery? Would I be able to pump it out?
Thanks in advance.

Being pregnant doesn’t mean you have to stop breastfeeding your child. Long ago doctors believed it actually took nutrients away from the baby inside you, however that is not the case. Even today we have people that believe this and they will argue with you the entire time. Only you can decide if you should stop breastfeeding your toddler or not. Don’t let someone else make that decision for you.
Reasons to Stop A few reasons you might want to stop breastfeeding may be if you are feeling constantly drained of energy. Or maybe your child has started to bite. Sometimes your milk will just dry up, this is your body’s way of telling you that it has had enough and to take a break. Mastitis could play a big role in making you stop immediately as well. Mastitis is an infection in the breast when it isn’t expressed enough and gets engorged.
Stopping or Weaning If you do plan on stopping because you are pregnant, make sure it is for the right reasons. If your child has reached a certain age, it might be best. But never just yank it away from them. Your child could wonder why it is being taken away. Wonder if they had done something or become discouraged about the new baby coming. Some children decide to wean themselves, which is a big help to you and you won’t feel so guilty about it. You can choose to do it cold turkey, or slowly wean him/her off. Cold turkey can have some bad results. Try limiting his/her feeding times to certain hours and gradually as time passes take away more. Your child will quickly stop on his/her own and it won’t be a traumatic event.
Continuing to Feed If you do plan on continuing to breastfeed while you are pregnant, talk with your doctor about it. Not all the time will the doctor agree with your decision. Sometimes he/she may see something in your health that you don’t. Listen carefully and find out if it is a health reason or simply his/her own belief. If it is the doctors belief, you can always seek out one that agrees with you. Being pregnant is hard enough at times, knowing you have someone in your corner will only relieve the stress. Don’t be surprised if your family and friends want to say something about it and they will probably give you all kind of advice on how to stop and what they’ve read. Nicely explain to them it is your decision and you’ll do what you think is best for your children. Try finding a support group in your area so you have someone to vent to or talk about these issues. Check out if there is a La Leche League near you or online that you can join.
Remember that as long as you take proper care of yourself and your body, you’ll be able to safely breastfeed while pregnant.

Breastfeeding in public: what are you ladies planning to do?
I am planning to breastfeed my baby and am wondering how you guys feel about breastfeeding in public. For those who are planning on doing it are you planning to cover? Use a blanket?
I love the fact that women like to breastfeed in public. I have no problem with it at all…. but I honestly don’t know if I would do it (I haven’t had the opportunity yet), but I think it is totally up to the woman and what she feels comfortable with. What I DON’T like is when OTHER people give their opinions about it. It is natural. All animals feed their babies that way. It is the way God (or nature) intended it to be. That’s what we have boobs for, so if you don’t want to see it, then don’t look!

Pregnancy naturally separates a mother’s outermost abdominal muscles to make room for her growing uterus. Called a diastasis, this separation doesn’t fully close up in 98 percent of new moms. Of perhaps greater concern for moms, new and veteran alike, the larger the diastasis, th…

If I’m not eating enough while breastfeeding, will my daughter still be nourished?
I seem to rarely have time for food and not enough money to buy a ton of healthy food. I basically subsist on Ramen and peanut butter. Will my body take my nutrients and put them in the milk so that at least my daughter is still being nourished properly?
You are what you eat.. and what you eat is what the baby is eating. Yes it will effect your milk, it will not be as healthy as it could be because YOU are not as healthy as you could be. Take the time to eat. For the both of you. Also a good iron and vitamin supplement will help a lot.
WIC, and food stamps help.. Or a local food bank can help too. Don’t be afraid to ask for a little help on food.

I’ve been nursing exclusively for a little over 8 months. My daughter is about two weeks away from her ninth month. She spent a day with her grandma, not intentionally the whole day, and she had to take formula. This was the first time she had ever taken it without slapping it out of hand… and she seemed to really enjoy it. Right now she only likes drinking ready made. She has done fine with the switch. I on the other hand can’t seem to handle it. My breasts are VERY engorged, and painful. I’ve taken some Tylenol, and it doesn’t seem to help. I don’t have insurance to go to the doctor and get a prescription. And I’ve read a lot about the cabbage leaves. I was just wondering, from experienced mothers please, if there is any relief I can get without expressing?
Been there and I know you are in pain! No one knows how bad it is unless they, too have suffered. I used to take a warm bath as it seemed to let the milk flow and that really helped.
Here is are two links that I hope helps. The second one mentions cabbage leaves.

Not breastfeeding my newborn tonight, should i pump my milk if they get engorged?
My 1 week old baby’s poop is so runny and he farts a lot, so i thought it was something i ate or drank…I am suspending breastfeeding him tonight to make sure everything is ok. I’ll be giving him formula temporarily.
I am concerned of engorgement, should i pump?
I’m not trying to condescend (please don’t take it that way) but breastmilk fed babies have looser stools that formula fed babies. Are you sure it’s not just that? Breastfeeding is based on supply and demand so if you want to go back to it, you need to go ahead and pump.
Mommy of 2: I’m not trying to push an agenda, just letting her know that breastfed stools look different than formula stools.

Well … When the milk comes in you can get up to 3 times bigger than she is. But once you stop breastfeeding your uterus contracts to its original size, parts that can be clog milk ducts and can cause infection if they are compatible.

I am interested in weaning my 9 month old son off of breastfeeding and on to formula. I was just looking for some advice on how to go about doing this and how long it takes to wean them off completely. He is eating solids. He eats rice cereal and fruit for breakfast and for dinner he eats Meat, Veggies and Fruit. He is on the stage 2 baby foods. I know they recommend breastfeeding for a year but he doesn’t seem to like breastfeeding as much anymore and he drinks formula just fine now, he actually used to not take it at all which was worrisome but now he actually likes it. So i just need some advice on how to wean!
each baby is different.
my oldest weaned no problem at 18 months, he was eating solids but was just hanging at night.i just decreased his comfort feeding gradually over a 3 week period and then he was done.
my middlest nursed(down to comfort nummies at waking and bedtime) until she was 2 weeks and 3 days from her 2nd bday, she was eating solids but still needed to hang out and that took almost 3 months of gradually letting her down.
my youngest is 13 months and eats 3 full meals a day, snacks through out but won’t use a cup or bottle for anything; no juice, water, etc so she quenches her thirst with me and that is ongoing all day and all night. even though she took an interest to solids much earlier than her sibs, she nurses more at this age than they did.
hang in there and be patient, don’t force it or it could drag out longer and be more painful for your baby and you.
