Details on Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Health magazines worldwide are talking about women in menopause and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). But the same question keeps popping up. What are bioidentical hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are made in a lab from plants, and they are comprised of molecules that are the same as the endogenous hormones made in a person’s body. These are not ‘exactly’ the same, but the molecules are “identical” – ergo the name bio-bidentical hormones. Bioidentical hormones are often referred to as natural hormones.

There are still a number of women who are afraid of taking hormones, and some doctors are leary as well. This is because everyone remembers the news that came out surrounding the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI). This government sponsored study that ended up with overly emphasized negative results released in May 2002, caused women and doctors to discontinue the use of hormone replacement therapy.

Some researchers and medical experts believe this initiative was oddly monitored and incompetently analyzed. This historic report was in fact on synthetic drugs with hormone-like effects, PremPro and Premarin, substances that were donated by the pharmaceutical company that had sold them since 1942. Unfortunately, the assumption was that the drugs would be found safe and effective, but in essence, nothing could have been further from the truth.

People can take bioidentical hormones in several ways: pills, gels, drops under the tongue, or via topical creams. of course there are a number of approaches to the dosing and blood levels and these have all been clumped together as “natural,” but the reality is that none of them are truly natural if they don’t mimic a rhythm that your body can recognize as natural. There is only one bioidentical hormone therapy protocol that is biomimetic – meaning it offers a standardized rhythmic, cycling of the hormones, estrogen and progersterone, and it does mimic the body’s rhythm.

Many women have been experiencing great results from this rhythmically dosed bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, and have happily given their personal accounts of the menopause experiences and testimonials on the Wiley Protocol website. In fact, some of them have also made comments or provided video testimonials on the Bioidenticals Channel on YouTube.

Gels, pills and drops do not pulse in our bodies, like endogenous hormones pulse. A healthy young woman’s endogenous hormones go way up and way down low and trigger different genes; genes that grow cells, stop cells from growing, and tell cells to die.

Women go through various hormone states in life; 1) young and cycling 2) pregnant, 3) breastfeeding or 4) declining hormones. Doesn’t it make sense that number 1 — young and cycling – seems to replicate that state of hormonal health the best? Why? Because the other two templates are too hard to recreate physically and experimentally.

What this means is that women cycle up to a peak of estrogen and then the body lets it fall and then brings it down again for a second smaller peak. Progesterone peaks on day 21. Healthy women have a period that lasts for five days with a heavier flow on day two and three. Therefore, one concludes bio-identical hormones can only be truly bio-identical if the hormones for replacement mimic not only those chemically found in the body, but also mimic the natural biological process as well.

What’s more, new research is focusing on healthy hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and suggests that women must cycle their hormones and have a menstrual bleed to be truly safe from cardiovascular events. In one study a combined cyclic regimen with monthly bleeding creates a lower cardiovascular risk for women than continuous-combined estrogen/progesterone/progestin therapy, which does not cause a menstrual bleed. The study also found that overall there was no increased risk of heart attacks in current users of HRT compared to women who had never taken hormones. The main investigator of this research, Dr. Ellen Løkkegaard, is a gynecologist at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, Denmark. She said, “The main message is that when hormone therapy is indicated for a woman, then a cyclic combined regimen should be preferred, and that application via the skin or the vagina is associated with a decreased risk of myocardial infarction.”

The observational study, the largest to look at the effects of HRT since the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) trial in 1991, followed 698,098 healthy 51-69 year-old Danish women. There is rhythm to the way hormones work, and there is a beat like music. Pills, gels, drops and static dosing do not honor the music. But the Wiley Protocol biomimetic, rhythmic bioidentical hormone therapy does. When women have enough hormones they feel good, and some even feel better than they did during their entire lives.

The multi-phasing dosing schedule of the Wiley Protocol is the only Biomimetic HRT on the market.

Breastfeeding Let Down Reflex

Why am I having trouble breastfeeding when I’ve been doing fine for the past 4 months?

I’ve been breastfeeding with no problems at all for the past 4 months. All of a sudden I’m having trouble with my “let down” reflex. It is very stressful to try to feed a hungry baby and not be able to. My son seems to get very impatient with this problem too. Sometimes I get so frustrated that I end up giving him formula and pump what I can. My stress level has been elevated here lately, but not more than right after he was born. Also this seems to be a bigger problem in the evening and at night. What is wrong with me? Is there anything I can do to help this? I don’t want to quit breastfeeding yet.

Stress (such as worrying about your let-down not happening, or overall stress in general) can cause you to not let-down. As can diminished milk supply, fatigue, or lack of proper nipple stimulation. In my opinion, what might be happening here is a combo of a couple of things. Firstly, it’s happening at night more often because your supply (and everyone else’s) is generally lower at night time (with supply being highest in the morning)…then, because you’re noticing an issue or a change, you’re worrying about it and causing stress on yourself which may just make the problem worse. Your body has adjusted to baby’s demand at this age, and you may feel like your supply is overall lower, when in fact you’re just not over-producing milk like you were in the beginning. When your breasts are full or engorged, you will get a quicker let down. Once your production slows a bit, that let down reflex may take longer.

Some things you can do – 1. try to relax and clear your mind when nursing. 2. Pump until you get a let-down and THEN nurse (this is if you have a pump and have no problem letting down for the pump), 3. Change nursing positions and ensure baby is latched properly.

I used to have a hard time letting down while pumping at work, but found that it happened quicker and easier if I took a book in and read it while pumping. Having my mind on something else relaxed me, and helped my body to counteract the stress I was feeling due to having limited time and space.

You shouldn’t have to quit nursing at all..if none of the above helps, consult a lactation consultant.

Breastfeeding Herbs Increase Milk

Is it too late to start breast feeding?

My baby is 6.5 weeks old now. I tried breastfeeding at birth but kinda gave up on it. Can i start now? I would love to try again. Are there any natural ways (no herbs or anything) to increase my supply? i hear oatmeal works wonders! Im going to get a manual pump tomorrow and also, how good is hand expressing? If i start pumping or expressing, how long will it to take for me to get milk?

Look at all the ignorance! If you don’t know the answer to a question for sure, then you shouldn’t answer at all!

OF COURSE it’s not too late! Even if your milk has dried up- there is still hope. Women can and do breastfeed adoptive and surrogate babies without ever having been pregnant so if they can bring on milk flow, so can you! Stimulation is the most important thing. Oatmeal does help. Drink lots of fluids. With the stimulation- put the baby to the breast as often as possible and pump pump pump! I helped my cousins wife re-lactate and we got her a supplemental nursing system (SNS) so that she could still tube feed the baby formula/expressed breast milk to ensure he was eating while he suckled the breast. She did use herbs and they are safe but I can understand your hesitance. With the herbs, she had a good milk supply in about a weeks time. She used fenugreek and blessed thistle just in case you do change your mind. They are not necessary however, they just make the process a bit faster and easier. Brewer’s yeast is also helpful!

To the person who said she’s likely doing things that she can’t when you breastfeed- I think it’s worth noting that you can eat and drink almost anything you want while nursing. You just obviously need to avoid drugs, alcohol and make sure all meds are safe for breastfeeding. There are no unsafe foods or nonalcoholic drinks under normal circumstances….not sure what you’re implying or where you get your information.

ETA: It’s a bit ridiculous that someone would give my answer and the answer below mine a thumbs down. Both answers are FACTUALLY sound. Giving an answer a thumbs down implies that you disagree. If you don’t agree with FACTS, then something is wrong with you.

It is a FACT that you can bring a milk supply back. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s hard but it CAN be done. The tips I suggested have worked for a lot of people. None of that is conjecture or my own personal opinion so I really can’t comprehend what’s not to agree with. Again, it’s fact- which means that it’s right. It’s not an opinion thus it’s not really up for debate.

Some people just don’t understand science!

To the original poster- I wish you the best of luck!!!

Breastfeeding Day 3

breastfeeding day 3
3 years old baby day and not eat?

I'm breastfeeding and I'm worried because my 3 days old is not eating. It was eating at least one side every 3-4 hours, but now all the windows when I try to feed and then sleeps. My milk is bad and I'm very hurt.

My word, Do not feed your baby 3 days old formula in a bottle! Continue to offer the breast. naked to wake up when sleeping. Is it pee? Must be at least 6 wet diapers per day. Call for help from a lactation specialist if necessary. Call your local La Leche League for further support. If they continue refusing to eat, I checked with a pediatrician. If your sinuses are congested and can not be easily attached to squeeze a little milk. It's easy to do in a hot shower. Sometimes child will have difficulty holding on to a congested chest. Keep trying and not give up! Get outside help!

Breastfeeding Reduces Breast Cancer

breastfeeding reduces breast cancer
If only I use a breast pump when I have my son "I can get the following benefits from it?

● nursing mothers return your pre-pregnancy weight fast ● helps the uterus to regain its original size more quickly and reducing bleeding you have after giving birth ● reduce the chance of getting ovarian cancer and breast cancer before menopause

For the most part, yes, mothers who breastfeed their return to weight during previous pregnancy more quickly – is essential as putting in calories than breast milk rather be used by you or converted into fat, helps the uterus return to its original size more quickly and you can reduce bleeding after delivery – the baby's sucking chest to do to release a hormone called oxytocin, which causes the uterus to contract, but the pump is not as good as the baby in the cause of this. Response, reduces the possibility of pre-menopausal breast cancer and ovary – they really do not know why breastfeeding offers this benefit, but will probably be pumping well

Hepatitis C positive and breastfeeding?

I have recently been informed that I am positive for hepatitis C (yes, I used to be a user drug users in my past life). In fact, I felt quite old and have been pain in the general area of the liver in my abdomen (I have gallstones, but too i) Anyhoo I am also breastfeeding my daughter and do not want to wean her for a while. I know that hepatitis C is running, but I can not take the herbs that can help my liver? How about a liver detoxification, it is possible while still breastfeeding? What about food and diet?

I recommend buy the book Herbs for Hepatitis C and liver, by Stephen Harrod http://www.amazon.com/Herbs-Hepatitis-Liver-Storey-Medicinal/dp/1580172555 which I bought Bühner Years ago, when a friend of mine was diagnosed with hepatitis C, and was very impressed by the research, information and suggestions. This book lists herbs that … 1) reverse or prevent damage to liver cells 2) have an antiviral activity against hepatitis 3) reverse hepatitis symptoms and optimize performance the dose of the liver, preparation, contra-indications and are presented in a very clearly that in depth. Some herbs are best suited to specific conditions associated with hepatitis C, so do not be final "Hepatitis C is a good pasture. You can sort the information that you in particular. It also gives dietary recommendations. I do not recommend a liver detoxification. This creates too much stress on the liver and the body to be of no use to you or your baby. Your liver needs be supported and nurtured at this time, no surprise in rehabilitation.

Breastfeeding Milk Production Increase

What my wife can do to keep milk production up?

My wife started to pump two weeks after delivery. In the third week of milk production has decreased in quantity. She was breastfeeding all the time. So you know any ladies who can increase production of milk will help.

Please see the information on kellymom.com. Your wife can also get help by going to mothering.com. My quick answers are: oatmeal in the morning. Mother's milk tea. Greek Fennel (selling CNG). pumping will also affect supply. Why is the pump? Are there any problem with the baby? call your local leader of La Leche League (which are free and are very helpful.) Also, see if you can come see a lactation consultant (LC). that are often covered by insurance and is available either by the doctors office or hospital. Good luck! Breastfeeding Ounces

breastfeeding ounces
How many ounces should I be getting every time I pump?

My daughter is a week old and I’m breastfeeding her.I’m new at all this breastfeeding stuff.I have a manual pump.Every time I pump I’m only getting half ounce to maybe one and half ounces.I feel I should be pumping more than that.I have a friend that just had a baby and she is pumping like 4 ounces every time she pumps. So is there something wrong with me or am I doing something wrong?

I would not be pumping this early. If your baby is nursing as often as she should (about every 2 hours or more) you aren’t going to have time to pump.

Just nurse your baby. In another 3-4 weeks you can pump if you want/need to.

But to answer your question, an ounce at a time, esp. if you’re also nursing often, is great, esp. with a cheap manual pump.

Breastfeeding – a Ladder for Good Health

Breast milk contains lactoferrin which helps in absorption of iron and protects the intestine from any harmful bacteria. The other component called lipases helps in digesting your fats which helps in baby’s growth and development. It not only serves the purpose of providing nutrients to your child but also in serving the purpose to quench to your baby’s thirst and fill-in your baby’s stomach.

The IQ of the child also increases by providing breast milk. It saves lot of time and money as you don’t have to sit up late night and mix the formula for your baby. The cost baby food is also cut which gives more time for the mother to be with her baby.

It creates a bond between the mother and child which binds them together. Nursing helps the mother to loose the extra pounds which she gained during her pregnancy. It burns out lot of calories which helps in bringing back the original size. If there are any chances of bleeding after child birth it lessens due to breast feeding. The risk of breast and ovarian cancer is minimal.

Some common remedies to help breastfeeding

-To arouse lactation for better quality and quantity, consumption of alfalfa is very useful

-To remove the hard feeling from your breast place a wet towel on your breast for 10 minutes which has been soaked in hot water

-Use of chamomile helps in controlling inflamed breast

-To minimize pain and inflammation, use of castor oil is very useful

-Having the baby in different positions for feeding also helps

-Consumption of fennel tea and almonds helps in increasing the milk production

-To relieve pain massaging Vitamin E oil on your breast is very good

-Having good amount of yogurt or curd helps in keeping the bacteria and other infection at bay

Breastfeeding Let Down

breastfeeding let down
Why do I feel intense anxiety before I have a let down and sometimes while nursing my baby?

I am a little concerned because with my son I am having these intense feelings of anxiety right before let down. It’s almost like a panic attack. It doesn’t seem to affect my let down, but why do I feel this way with him? I really love and adore my son and I wouldn’t stop breastfeeding him for anything, but why am I feeling this way? When I nursed my last child I felt nothing but intense feelings of love and happiness before a let down. Now I’m anxious and depressed right before a let down. My grandmother died suddenly while i was pregnant and I was very close to her, could this have some sort of subconscious effect on my hormones or something? Any advice is appreciated.

Right now your hormones are all out of wack. It is not uncommon for a woman to feel depressed or sad after the birth of her child. My boyfriend is taking psychology and I read about this in one of his books. It will pass soon. Most women get over it with in a month or two after the birth. As long as its just feelings of depression and not harmful thoughts you will be ok. If you feel like our getting more depressed or get bad thoughts about the baby it might help for you to talk to someone that is close to you or seek out a therpist. I am sure you will be fine. You have a wonderful baby and your life is great. Dont let these feelings drag you down and worry you anymore then they already are. Sometimes just talking to someone helps more then you would think.

Football hold is easiest, I watch for “fish lips” what am I doing wrong? Does anyone else have this problem?
Suggestions appreciated
Thank You in advance for any help.

Using lanolin, tried ice packs and tea bags, nipples lightly bleeding, but I really want this to work!

Besides the fish lips – can you tell if she is using her tongue properly? While nursing, it should come out over her lower gumline.

Make sure she is taking in a good portion of your areola and not just your nipple. You can help with this if you make a “nipple sandwich” when you are latching her on. Compressing the breast tissue as if you were going to take a bite out of a big sandwich can help her to take in more areola and may make you more comfortable. Also, make sure you are aligning your hand properly to her mouth when you support the breast. In the football hold, your hand will resemble a “C” on your breast. In cradle or cross cradle your hand will form a “U” on the breast.

Make sure you are supporting her head well so she isn’t pulling down on the nipple. Both football hold and cross cradle are good for this.

Make sure you are keeping the lanolin on there all the time. Give them a few mins to air dry after feeding.

weight loss herbs during breastfeeding?

Hello every body

does anybody knows is it bad for me or for the baby to take weight loss herbs during breastfeeding????

does it affect the milk?

thanx

Herbs are not regulated by the FDA; they are exempt under the DSHEA. There are so many reports of herbs being contaminated with prescription drugs, with toxic chemicals, and with heavy metals like lead and arsenic, that I would think twice about taking them period, and especially since you are breastfeeding.

I Can Feed Myself! - A Baby-led Approach to Introducing Solid Foods

I Can Feed Myself! – A Baby-led Approach to Introducing Solid Foods

$79.95

A baby’s transition from a milk-only diet to eating family foods begins with the first solid foods.

Most parents look forward to this stage – but many find it turns out to be less easy than they expected. They worry about what to give the baby and how to persuade her/him to eat real food once the pureeing stage is over. Some find that mealtimes become a battleground, leading to long-term eating p…

Breastfeeding By Pumping

Breastfeeding and pumping my daughter enough to eat?

My daughter is almost 7 months and breastfeeding. I also recently introduced solid and eat 3 meals a day. Full-time job, I pump at work. My question is, lately, it seems that if you wake up at night. At first I thought was due to teething, but she is very hungry! After eating, going back to sleep. Lately he has been waking 2-3 times a night to eat ( given time, could not sleep all night). The 3 bottles when I put the work is only a total of 15 to 18 ounces (and weighs 22 lbs.) How I can know how not eat during the day? (I guess if I can pump more may sleep better at night!). I also try to avoid having to complete. Thanks! PS. In total, that is breastfed or bottle-feeding a total of 7-8 times a day! (For now, it should be closer to 5 according to his pediatrician).

Oooh, you'll find here a bad habit. Honestly, I say this based on the advice of my (excellent) the pediatrician for my two children who were breastfed. After about four months of age (and, in particular, seven months), no need to eat at night. Has a bad habit and you'll have to break it. Try increasing the daily intake 24 ounces (8 ounces 3 times a day) and morning and evening as nursing, and must be good. Try pumping more / more often to increase its bid. Normally a baby would, but since they have been pumping, pumping his pace may not remain with their needs. If you have to complete, do not feel bad, you did a great job and little formula and not take away the form of all the benefits of breast milk given. It is likely that (hopefully not, but fingers crossed) to continue sleepless night, even after eating more during the day because it became a habit for her. You'll have to resist the urge for food night and get her back on schedule and sleeping through the night again. PS: all the baby wakes up at night. So yes, it will wake up at night, but it should be able to go back to sleep without your intervention. That is what the film "all night", this does not mean she does not wake up at all.

Safe Herbs Breastfeeding

Is it the herb Pau D'Arco safe to use while breastfeeding?

I want to use this herb in my candid cleaning but I can not find no information on what is good for nursing. Please comment if you are familiar with using herbs, Thanks!

Pau D'Arco I use and give my children a formula contained. I found a site, however, is not recommended for nursing mothers http://www.herbnet.com/ask. Or pregnant %%%%% 20Yeast 20on 20the 20Infections.htm 20herbalist/asktheherbalist_questions do not know if the link copy and paste could work. I'm disappointed because I love Arco Pau and I inform safety. I refer to your profile pytonutritional is dense. Contains laprochol but laboratory tests to high doses of the strain was shown to be toxic may be true of any isolated in high doses. I read the article and draw your conclusions. But he did wonders for my family, especially my 4 year old daughter is prone to bladder infections and gave it to her since she was 2.
