Severe nipple pain during breastfeeding?

Since Saturday night I have been experiencing severe nipple pain. I have had some nipple pain since I started breastfeeding but nothing like I am feeling right now. It is a shooting pain that occurs in my right breast when it is touched. I also noticed last night that just switching sides to sleep the pain would shoot into my nipple. Luckily it doesn’t hurt that bad when my son nurses.

Has anyone else experienced this type of pain? What could it be?

it sounds liek it may be either thrush or mastitis. you can go to your doc and get some meds for it. also you need to make sure your latch is right. have a lactation consultant help my sister had latch problems and went to the doc and they helpped right aways. also, use the lansinoh nipple cream it helpa a lot too and you can even use it on your baby’s lips to help keep them from getting chapped
