Is there any harm in giving lactose free formula to my baby if we aren’t 100% sure if he’s lactose intolerant?
Was wondering if anyone had any information on the above question….My son is 7 weeks old and has silent reflux as diagnosed by our pediatrician. I have had to switch from breastfeeding to formula for this reason and a whole other bunch of other reasons and complications since birth. He was weaned off breastmilk onto the Nan HA Gold, his reflux has gotten worse in the last 2 days.
I have heard that lactose intolerence can be a reason for reflux so was wondering if there is any harm in just trying the lact-free formula anyhow just in case?
We have formula thickener ready to go too if the new formula doesnt work.
We are also giving him 1ml of Milanta before feeds as instructed by our ped.
Thanks for your help
No harm. The only difference between lactose free formula and lactose formula is one has the lactose processed out. My doctor recommends lactose free for all babies just right off the bat, without any lactose intolerance testing.
Add: Yes babies can be lactose intolerant. That’s why they have a test (testing their poop) to see how they’re digesting or whether they have problem digesting lactose, and if they have trouble digesting it then they are lactose intolerant. Since there is a test for it, lactose intolerance definitely occurs in babies. It’s just not very common.
