to the breastfeeding mothers!?
freya (6months) is having 2 feeds from me a day (1 in morn 1 at night!) lately she has started scratching my face, sticking her fingers in my mouth and pinching my boob and pulling it in too her mouth – and out again!
it really hurts sometimes and makes me jump!
i just want to know what your experience is with this and if you have any handy hints!
i don’t want to stop breastfeeding!
Good job for continuing to nurse through this!!
Like everyone said, it is normal and developmentaly appropriate for your baby to be more curious while nursing. She needs something to hold onto, play with, keep occupied while nursing. Make good eye contact with her while nursing too. I had a few friends who bought ‘nursing necklaces’. Their babies grabbed onto this chunky style necklace while nursing as a distraction. It did help. Your daughter also needs to know that the breast is a food source, not a toy. I know it sounds kind of mean, but she needs to snuggle in and nurse, not play.
All the best to you!
