Doxycycline is a synthetic derivative of tetracycline, an antibiotic. It is marketed in the preparation of generic and branded generic business names, as Periostat and Adoxa. It is more affordable and, unfortunately, less efficient than its more popular cousin, the minocycline. Doxycycline is effective in controlling the development and proliferation of bacteria that promotes acne.
