What Is The Best Birth Control While Breastfeeding?
My husband is coming home from his deployment in a week and i had a hassle with my last doctor I had. She told me she wouldn’t give me the Mirena bc its “unsafe” which I told her that I know its not and I really want it. Instead she told me i should use YAZ. Im pretty sure that isnt safe. Since that appt i changed my dr so i can get the mirena. But the only thing is that i wont be able to get it right there and then. I have to wait at least 2 months bc of the response to the insurance(they cover it though) and i have to be on my period.
Q1:What would be the best birth control i can use until i can get the mirena? I dont want to decrease my milk supply.
Q2:Also, i stated that i really dont want to use depo provera bc i’ve had a few friends that had problems with it. what are your experiences with it?
I NEED SOMETHING SOON
Honestly, nothing with any drug in it is safe to use while breastfeeding, not birth control pills nor the mirena because it has hormones it. As for Depo Provera, that is also a strong hormone that gives you a month’s worth of drug at each injection. Before taking any medication you should speak with your baby’s pediatrician to find out what they think would be best. I think your husband would understand why he needs to use condoms seeing that you don’t want to harm your baby.
I worked in an OB/GYN’s office for years and this is what we always recommended to our patients. I hope this helps.
