breastfeeding question? need some help?
I used a nipple shield today (been using it for a month now under lactation consultant’s advice).. but anyways today I ended up with this weird blister on my nipple! It hurts so bad! It doesn’t help that I already have thrush… how can I make this blister go away quick?
Is it possible the shield was mispositioned? I used a shield to breastfeed my son for 4 months (for those who are wondering, the most common reason for their use is to aid the baby in latching when mom has flat or inverted nipples). Occasionlly, if the shield wasn’t exactly in the right place, I would get a blister. It usually went away after a few hours. I would suggest trying to feed only on the other breast for a feeding (pump the affect breast if you get uncomfortable). If that doesn’t help, or it seems to be getting worse instead of better, you might have a plugged duct and/or mastiits. Go back to the doctor! Hopefully it will be gone soon.
