what do you think of the new airline security measures as they impact flying with kids?
i’m thinking i’d just as soon stay home than have my four young kids not be allowed to have anything in their laps to play with or read or to to use the bathroom for the last hour of what was potentially already a long and trying international flight. i wonder if they’re planning for lots of potty accidents among the toddler and preschool set? i also wonder if holding or breastfeeding a screaming infant counts as having something in your lap?
yeah, i’m not sure about the needle thing, either. it used to be doable w/ a prescription label but i did read one article saying they were now rethinking the rules about syringes on airplanes. if the epipens can’t come on the flight with us, we’re definitely not flying.
in fairness, i believe the new rules about the last hour of the flight only apply to international flights (you know how those bad guys only target international flights, er, except for 9/11 … hmmm), and per today’s news, they may already be being relaxed somewhat.
It’s a knee-jerk reaction to a “crisis” that could have been prevented if a little bit of what I like to call “common sense” was applied in the beginning. Disallowing a man on the terrorist watch list to fly would be common sense. Checking up on a man whose own father reported him as being involved with terrorists would be common sense. Strip-searching a 93-old grandmother in an airport security line is not common sense. Making me sit still on a plane for the last hour as if I were in boarding school is not common sense. Asking a child to wait for over an hour (and really, they say it’s an hour to landing, but we know it can take a lot longer than that to get the wheels on the ground and then taxi to the terminal– more like an hour and an eternity) is far from common sense.
