Breastfeeding affecting baby’s solid meal eating?
My son is 16 months old. He just doesn’t seem to be interest in eating solid meals. He eats whatever I offer him(semi-solid meals) but cries a lot right from the first bite. I cannot give him solid stuff as he won’t bite it and chew. Though he can chew, but the moment I put some solid stuff on his toungue, he spits it out. Also, he never takes anything to his mouth by himself.
He is still on breastfeeding, and I have got some suggestions that maybe that is keeping him disinterested in food. I planned to continue breastfeeding till 2 yrs as per WHO guidelines. But, if he is not learning to eat, I may have to stop that right away. Please suggest.
I would keep offering food as much as you can. Give him variety, feed him when and what you eat, try and peak his interest as much as you can, but try not to stress.
I wouldn’t wean him. Your breast milk is filling in the nutritional gaps and continues to give him a lot of nutrition right now.
My 2nd refused all solids until he was almost 15 months old, and then simply began eating when he was interested. Keep offering to your son and he will eat when he is interested.
