When did it become the norm for people to make a choice between breastfeeding and formula feeding?
Obviously, we have the choice as first time mothers.
Somewhere along the line, breastmilk was substituted with a replacement formula. When did it become ‘normal’ to have to make the choice?
A date and a URL would be very helpful if possible please.
(please don’t go on about ‘breast is best etc because everyone knows that but for some people that doesn’t work and it doesn’t appeal.)
(Oh and just for the record, I’m breastfeeding my baby.)

check out that link…..i actually found this article a couple of years ago…..atually in 1880′s women began offering cow milk substitutes to their infants…..with horrible results.
The United States government attempted to intervene in the practice for many years after the turn of the century.
Fantastic research by Jacqueline Wolf, Phd in this report.
