Nursing Mother’s Companion?
I have always sworn by “The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding” and “The Breastfeeding Book”. I have a baby shower this weekend for my cousin and wanted to pick up a copy of either for her, but they are not carried at our BabiesRus. They did have a copy of “The Nursing Mother’s Companion” though. I flipped through it a bit and it seemed pretty good, so I opted to pick it up instead of drive all the way across town to see if it is carried elsewhere.
So, how does it compare to the above mentioned books?
Also, I was planning on slipping the number of some local lactation consultants in the book for her, good idea or no? I know she is planning on breastfeeding, but she is getting some pretty cruddy advice about it from some of our family members and I want to offer her as much support as she can get!
Eh, it’s alright. A friend of mine was given an excerpt of it in her Enfamil diaper bag the hospital gifted her (she gave birth in a different hospital than me) and I read it a bit.
It’s not terrible, it doesn’t give any inaccurate advice (the two month excerpt didn’t anyway), but it isn’t exactly thorough either. I’d call it a decent starter book, based on what I read, maybe it gets more detailed further on.
I definitely think slipping her the numbers is a great idea.
