breastfeeding friendly kids books?
my 21month old son got a few “I’m going to be a big brother” type books when we had his baby sister (she’s 8weeks now). But I’ve noticed none of them show breastfeeding. In fact any book or video he’s ever seen always shows baby getting a bottle when it’s time to eat. What’s up with that?
I’m not going to start a whole big tyrade on breastfeeding. But it would be nice for him to see families in books/tv that do things the way we do. Anybody know of books that portray breastfeeding (and maybe even cosleeping or babywearing) in a positive and kid-friendly way?
hmmm, I wasn’t trying to start a fight about how the world was out to get breastfeeders. And of course I don’t need a book to tell my son what’s normal.
But don’t they make african-american dolls? why do they need to? would a child really be so confused playing with a doll that was a different color? would she think she wasn’t normal?
No, but that doesn’t mean it’s not nice to see depictions of the way you live.
Well I can’t personally recommend any of these as I am looking for similar things myself. However, these ones seem to be popular, and I am planning to get one or two myself, probably at least the last two on the list.

he Wonders of Mother’s Milk (Hardcover)

The Best Gifts by Marsha Skrypuch
I really want this next one about co-sleeping have heard really good things.
Biggest Bed in the World (Paperback)
by Lindsay Camp (Author), Jonathan Langley (Illustrator)
The other one I really want is this one
We Have a Baby (Paperback)
by Cathryn Falwell (Author)
It shows the baby breastfeeding etc but it includes the older child cuddled up on the couch etc. So it shows the ‘family’ interacting, not just the new baby.
Comments also suggest that you can’t tell the gender of the older sibbling.
Hope this helps.
